20 tips for surviving a summer road trip, courtesy of touring musicians {Gadling}

Apr 14th 2011 10:00AM If you are traveling through the Florida Panhandle, stop at their rest areas to get a few hours sleep if you are tired. They are security manned 24/7 and some of the best around. Always fill up at half a tank. If I am driving east I get a later start in the morning so I don't have the morning sun coming through my windshield as well as getting a very early start driving west and stop for dinner when the sun is coming in your eyes. Then drive at night after the sun is out of your eyes. When you drive west of the Mississippi River for the most part, you want to have reservations made because in some areas the hotels are few and far between. Just in case make sure you take a pillow and a lilght blanket in the summer if you get stuck in a rest area instead of making your hotel.

You can always stop at McDonald's and get their fruit and walnut salad to perk you up. Love driving and crunching on their apple slices and then their walnuts.

Everytime I stop to get gas I get a drink and then stop at rest area to throw it away and very seldom every spend more than two hours in the car without getting out if only to walk around a rest area. Pack a small cooler with water and Coca Cola for those times when the area between stops is longer.

Love getting off the interstate and seeing the countryside and the small towns where you can always find a Dairy Queen. Driving from Oklahoma is pretty easy to get wherever you want to go with I-35, I-40, or I-44, just hope in your car and off you go. You have to pack light -- easier to do laundry then have too much clothes with you.

Hate to fly and find driving really fun!

What's Cheaper: Staying On or Off Disney Property? Crunching the Numbers {AOL Travel News}

Feb 23rd 2011 5:37PM There is only one place to stay at Disney World and that is inside the park. It is not a cheap vacation but if you take advantage of all the benefits of staying in the park (we stayed at the Contemporary and the Polynesian Village), it is well worth the costs. The characters can be seen at the resort hotels during meals if you make a reservation. Nothing like hoping on the monorail and heading for the main theme park of Epocot. Then there are the buses outside the in the park hotels that take you to MGM and the Animal Kingdom plus Downtown Disney.

At Downtown Disney if you like chocolate, go to Ghirardelli's for ice cream and chocolate candy -- absolutely the best.

If you have young children make reservations for lunch or dinner where they can see the characters. My granddaughter loved seeing all the Winnie the Pooh characters at the restaurant across from the Castle that looks like an ice palace. Food was really good.

Those extra hours at night are AWESOME! You get a chance to ride the most popular rides with little to no line.

My advice -- stay inside the park and spend the extra money. You will not regret it!

How Important is Middle School? {ParentDish}

Feb 11th 2011 8:54AM Education isn't partisan and some of you are showing a lack of class. Laura Bush was a very gracious first lady who put education first. She is a librarian and has always considered the education of our children a priority. Senator Ted Kennedy was out in front with the President on 'No Child Left Behind' -- he knew when a topic was partisan and not partisan.

Believe she is correct that Middle School is where you lose students. Parents don't take enough interest in their children's education or we would have this turned around sometime ago when parents demand a better education for their children.

I applaud Michelle Obama for taking on childhood obesity and the school lunch menu. If a child doesn't eat right, they have a harder time learning.

If you cannot see that education should be the concern of all Americans not just by political party, then suggest you are too deep into politics and cannot see the forest for the trees.

Christina Aguilera Botches National Anthem at Super Bowl, Admits Mistake {PopEater}

Feb 6th 2011 8:14PM Worst rendition ever of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl -- why can't signers just sing the regular version instead of trying to adapt to something different and blow it. I thought it sucked big time.

Desmond Howard Says Phil Simms Threatened to Hit Him {Fanhouse Backporch}

Feb 6th 2011 3:40PM I think Chris Simms is out of line to go after Desmond Howard and for the person that said it was black versus white -- I am white. It has nothing to do with race but someone happens to have been an NFL quarterback who is as arrogant as they come and his sons no wrong. Why don't some of you defending Simms asked what happened to his son Chris Simms recently while driving. Simms raised his two sons to feel privileged which is wrong. Side 100% with Desmond Howard who I respect. Simms is one of the most biased announcers for the NFL so no one should be shocked he would do this.

Are Tea Partiers Gaming the Vote for Bristol Palin on 'Dancing With the Stars'? {AOL TV}

Nov 18th 2010 9:02AM You can take it to the bank that is exactly what is happening because there is no way she should still be dancing. It was all a publicity stunt to start our and then her mother was in the audience.

It is all about Sarah Palin and a lot of her supporters act like Obama supporters who never looked deeper into the qualifications of the person then how they look. I don't see one bit of difference of those who post on websites encouraging people to vote multiple times with new email addresses and do for Sarah Palin.

Anyone who thinks that social conservatives are the most honest in the world, need look no further than Joe Miller or Christine O'Donnell who Palin and the Tea Party Express got behind to know that no amount of baggage is going to matter as it is about their agenda and the homage they get paid by certain candidates. If this election didn't provide social conservatives would do something like this, nothing will.

Cowboys Deserve to Feel Heat After Lackluster Opening Effort {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Sep 13th 2010 9:33AM Enjoyed this game -- looking like a typical Cowboy team of late. When they got rid of the real Roy Williams and then brought in the Roy Williams the receiver -- jumped off for good. I don't care if they go to the Super Bowl, don't like Romo and is highly touted band of receivers. When has Romo come up big in a big game? A lot of the Sooner Nation is looking to watch Sam Bradford help rebuild the Rams. How many years in a row has Jones ignored the Sooners when drafting? Part of a large group who is now supporting the Rams, Tampa Bay, Bengals, Minnesota, and Redskins.

Wear Wristwatch? Use Email? Not for Class of '14 {ParentDish}

Aug 18th 2010 6:01PM Where did they find these kids for their survey? Kids are taught cursive in most elementary schools or is that another thing that only happens in Middle America?

Also don't know a lot of young people who have have an entitlement mentality. They work really hard at what they do and will work two jobs if necessary. They work to make good grades and a lot of them have part time jobs.

Believe this generation will do just fine! I am a Mom -- two of them college graduates who don't expect anything to be handed to them. It is a pleasure to help them out because they are such good kids and conservative which seems to make a difference.

Entitlement mentality seems to be a liberal deal!

Best '50s Movies (10-1) {Moviefone Blog}

Oct 3rd 2009 10:15AM You are so right. Looking at these movie titles makes me wish Hollywood was still like this. Growing up my kids watched these movies and still enjoy them. My youngest has all of Audrey Hepburn movies. The 10 Commandments was one of the best movies ever and should have made the list but there were just so many really good movies put out in those days that it is hard to choose.

AOL Straw Poll: July 21-28 {Politics Daily}

Jul 28th 2008 10:39AM AOL poll is more accurate then a nationwide poll. Never have figured out why a nationwide poll was worth anything because each state votes separately in the Presidential election not nationwide. Guess it is good for the fawning Obama media to get themselves all in a tizzy. Our national media has lost all sense of fairness in this Presidential election. They lost it when Hillary was running as they fawned all over Obama. Why is what I would like to know. A US Senator with little to no experience as he was elected in 2004 and 18 months later announced he was running for President is the darling of the MSM. Doesn't say a lot about the MSM and their lack of ethics. Obama couldn't even find the time to hold subcommittee hearings when he was Chair of a Foreign Affairs Committee but he knows all about world affairs. What he doesn't have is humility added to the fact he could care less about our wounded soldiers since he couldn't take his campaign staff. Was he afraid to meet them one on one?
