Baby Naming Trends in 2010 Set by 'Teen Mom' Stars {ParentDish}
May 5th 2011 3:32PM So you "got pregnant and named your kid a cool name"? ell, goody for you! What an incredible accomplishment. Did you also first get an education and a job that allows you to rear your child abover the poverty level? Most of us on here do not think unwed and pregnant adolescents are "cool"...just stupid and/or careless and a tax burden.
Sasha Obama Wears a Malia Hand-Me-Down for Easter {Stylelist}
Apr 26th 2011 10:31AM Way to go, Mrs. O.! Nothing wrong with hand-me-downs. Gawdnose we wore them all the time in my family. Loved my cousin Bonnie's stuff. She was just too "cool" and had really beautiful things.
The Perfect Day of Eating {That's Fit}
Apr 17th 2011 11:46AM As a former ICU nurse, I can tell you that drinking lemon in water is cultural in many places...and I have seen more gastrointestinal bleeds because of it!!
Putting acid into an empty stomach is a terrible idea. Where did this "nutritionist" get his/her credentials? The stomach's acid is one of the strongest acids known. Additional acid over a period of time will erode the stomach lining. Wonder why you are coughing up blood? Or why your stools are black and tarry? We had to teach many patients that lemon and water on an empty stomach is a very, very bad idea. you have enough acide in your stomach to assist your digestive process...which begins with the enzymes in your mouth, incidentally. This nutritionist needs to get another job. Oh..wait... maybe they were fired for spreading poor information like this and that's why they dishing it here on AOHell...
FAA Orders Removal of Oxygen Tanks from Airplane Bathrooms {AOL Travel News}
Mar 12th 2011 6:05PM @Farankerin: "Safety first" is a 'woman's cry'? STOP sterotyping, idiot. I've seen lots of men's comments along the same lines as Debbie's. I believe we should profile, but this country is so big and ethnically diverse it isn't practical. The TSA runs peepshows and feel-ups so that Debbie and her ilk (male and female) can feel safe, but the FBI admits that guns and kinives still get through while citizens rights are trampled. I'll go with Ben Franklin who said "Those who would give up essential Liberty for a little Safety deserve neither".
Measles infected passenger puts five airports on alert {Gadling}
Feb 27th 2011 11:17PM Lucy, as a nurse practitioner I advise you to do a bit of reading before you give opinions online. Stop with the hyperbole as well. Vaccines are not "loaded' with mercury contaminents. Each time you write you express your lack of knowledge. Open a book, go tothe library or do a bit of research on the computer in a reputable site authored by health care professionals, please. The woman who was ill should have been vaccinated as a child. She can cause untold harm because of her demonstrated lack of concern for everyone else. Adults react much differently than children to "childhood diseases". So this IS, as you so elegantly put it, a "big whoop". John Donne, the poet, wrote long ago that "No man is an island". No woman, either! If you're ill stay away from the general public, and especially stay off planes which are notorious for poor air circulation and harboring viruses and bacterias.
Wait, What is that White Light Anyway? The Science Behind Near-Death Experiences {MyDaily}
Feb 4th 2011 4:22PM I'm a Nurse Practitioner, and so sick of hearing all the bloated-ego docs pontificate. When I worked in the ICU we had people come back from arrests all the time, and often describe the same kind of thing: a sense of peace, oneness, light and calm. It had nothing whatsoever to do with fear. They often saw loved ones, not religious figures, or gardens that seemed almost identical in description. I'd bet the good doc is agnostic at best - and nothing wrong with that - but he's just like certain religious factions that are so very sure (to the point of pomposity) about being right with no really reliable evidence. He wants to sell his book which will use twisted science to "prove" his point, and allow him to write yet another book about very little. Please remember that research never "proves" anything . It can only demonstrate strong and stronger probabilities. Every duck is a white duck, or likely to be, until the first black duck comes along.
Woman and Baby Kicked Off United Flight {AOL Travel News}
Jan 29th 2011 9:45PM So this is the second time you had trouble fitting that seat on a plane? Hellooooo...get a different seat for air travel!
And...@ No: either start taking your meds again real soon, share that funny stuff you're smoking or learn punctuation 'cause...damn!!
Jesse Ventura Sues Over Airport Pat-Downs {AOL Travel News}
Jan 27th 2011 2:10PM The FBI has been able to sneak guns, knives and boxcutters (9/11 anyone?) through the scanners and the pat-downs. If some jihadist fool is determined to blow up a plane it will happen. In the mean time all of these (accidentally on purpose?) near misses only serve to restrict our freedoms and impune our dignity further and further. The terrorists are laughing because they have managed to impact American lives big time. So all of you feeling smug and righteous about "protecting the flying public" by submitting to Chertof's scheme to make money and expose yourselves to extra radiation that no independent testing firm has actually been allowed to measure ought to consider this comment from a REAL patriot:
"Those who are willing to sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither."
Benjamin Franklin
Americans are least adventurous travelers {Gadling}
Nov 3rd 2010 10:14PM My husband gets two weeks off a year. And he's only allowed to take one of them every six months. It's hard to do anything in the US in that amount of time, much less anywhere else in the world. I agree with those who have said time is a huge factor in where Americans will go and what they will do. I've eaten rattlesnake, squirrel, alligator, chocolate covered ants...but I draw the line at tarantula. If I want to eat an arachnid, I will have crab, thanks.
