Gadling gear review - first look at the new Olympus E-P2 {Gadling}

Nov 22nd 2009 12:59PM You are probably right (and I am wrong :) ) - it is just my experience with EVF's that it is easier to not use them in a dark situation. When I get around to a full review, I'll take a close look at how effective the Olympus EVF is in dark situations. Thanks for the comments - certainly gave me something to think about when reviewing the E-P2.

Nov 22nd 2009 12:50PM Well, once it gets dark enough that you need the flash, you won't see much through the viewfinder.

Nov 17th 2009 12:18PM Sadly not even close. Internet starts at $0.75/min down to $0.40/min depending on how many minutes you purchase in advance. I'll be describing all the online services in a second article.

Nov 16th 2009 9:37PM Money - handling cash is a complex administrative issue for the airlines. Now they don't need to handle any cash, and the entire process is automated. Transactions are wirelessly sent to the airline HQ, and nobody has to handle bags of cash, change and inventory sheets. This also rules out staff theft of other kinds of fraud.

The airlines will pay a couple of % in transaction fees, but they already get a good deal due to their massive amount of credit card transactions for tickets.

As with everything the airlines do - it all comes down to saving them more money, while calling the new procedure "streamlined" or "enhanced".

Airline elite status - does it still have any value left? {Gadling}

Oct 19th 2009 8:18PM Josh, I'm quite aware of the Flyertalk thread. I helped add stuff to it in its first version, six years ago.

My initial reply here was by no means a complete guide, which is why I said I'd post more about it in a later post. As for having no idea how popular it is, I'm not entirely sure where you got that idea, but the concept of matching is indeed more popular than it used to be - simply because more people know that it is possible.

As for matching not being easy or worthwhile, now I need to question you on this. I know from experience that status matching has been, and still is very profitable on some airlines. On some it is a pain in the backside, and with others it is just a single email or fax away. United for example, still matched PremEx, which is worth about $600 based on free luggage allowance and E+ alone.

As for keeping status for years being "blatantly misinformative", I know someone who is on his seventh year of elite status, all based off a single year of real elite level status. It really isn't hard to match away from one airline and match back into them. Tricks like having an international address are not exactly reserved for the smartest people.
