Obama's Real-Person Health Care Story Not That Real {Politics Daily}

Sep 18th 2009 2:11PM So your insurance company has actually been there, doing what you pay your premium for. They are not losing money on you, believe you me. It's how insurance works - everyone pays in, few actually need it, so the premiums cover medical expenses, overhead, and a nifty profit margin. My insurance company does what it's supposed to as well - it's Tricare, the government-funded insurance provided to military members that everyone claims is going to provide such poor service. In fact, I've never had a headache with my government-funded insurance and I see excellent doctors. Wish I could say the same for BCBS - which covered me continuously from birth through the age of about 25, yet refused to cover physical therapy when I was 22 because my tendonitis was somehow a pre-existing condition . . .

Obama's Real-Person Health Care Story Not That Real {Politics Daily}

Sep 18th 2009 2:05PM Thanks for a rational response - they are in short supply these days. I'm amazed at how "government FOR the people, by the people" gets pushed by the wayside these days - the special interests and big corporations that benefit the most from our government's policies somehow have convinced people that if we work hard, medical insurance will be there - the uninsured must somehow be deadbeats. Really?? how many millions of jobs in this country don't provide insurance? How many of these big companies are cutting medical benefits for their employees just to make a few more dollars of profit? How many insurance companies, in order to make a SICKENINGLY HUGE PROFIT off of our medical care cuts corners, drops people when they're sick, and call "pre-existing condition" when they don't want to pay.

Why medical coverage for all in this country? Because it is the RIGHT thing to do, actually benefits every individual in this country, AND will save us money in the long run. Let's face it - had we not bailed out AIG for overextending themselves in risky profit ventures (wait - aren't they an insurance company?) - we would be well on our way to paying for universal health care.

John Ensign: Bill Clinton's Transgression Was Worse {Politics Daily}

Aug 20th 2009 10:25PM Wow ProPalin - your ability to rationalize is monumental. A man is a member of the Promise Keepers and violates both his "promise" and his marriage vows - MADE IN FRONT OF GOD, A PRIEST, AND THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN HIS LIFE, and somehow the betrayal is not as bad because he didn't violate an oath made in a legal proceeding? BOTH of them were wrong, BOTH actions were reprehensible, NEITHER needed to be played out in front of the media and the American people. GET A LIFE - Republicans are not perfect nor are Democrats Satan - we're all people with different viewpoints trying to do the best we can in our lives and for this country. And as long as people keep sticking their feet in the cow sh$t, pouting, and refusing to work together for a better world, this country is going to keep sliding into the muck.

Plaxico Burress Pleads Guilty, Agrees to 2 Years in Prison {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Aug 20th 2009 3:58PM So anyone can lose 2-3 years of their life for carrying a gun in a country where a "right to bear arms" is supposedly guaranteed in our Constitution? This country is way too jail-time happy. The point of the penal system is supposed to be to rehabilitate people who have committed crimes. Is it really going to take this person 2 years in jail to realize he F#cked up by carrying a gun in NY and decide he probably shouldn't do it again (I suspect he probably knows that already)? Seriously, people - as taxpayers we're footing the bill for this stupidity.

Arizona GOP Runs Doctored Cigarette Photo of President Obama {Politics Daily}

Aug 11th 2009 5:25PM Wow - barely eight months in, and Obama has already done enough to be labeled a "terrible president?" If you disagree with his policies, fine - everyone has a different take on how things should be done. The majority of Americans didn't like the way things were done for the past eight years, which is why this president is now in office. But this continued BS (on both sides) of personalizing things when you just don't agree with someone's viewpoint is pathetic and childish. As I recall, eight months into W's first term, he had spent more than half of his term either in Crawford or at Camp David - yet no one had labeled him a "terrible president" at that point.

Los Angeles trailer park may be home to your next pilot {Gadling}

Jul 23rd 2009 2:15PM Married to an airline pilot, I can tell you that pilots, particularly those with families, have a tough time making ends meet and can't afford to live where they're hubbed all the time. This is the wages of those $49 flights. Add to that the layoffs and displacements, and living a ten or twelve-hour commute from a city like LA is a necessity, not a choice. My husband was hired by a major airline back in 2001, was furloughed for eleven months post 9/11, brought back to work for a year, then furloughed for five years in August of 2003. So guess whose job supports the family? We live where my job is, as an airline job is not even a guaranteed paycheck anymore. Be glad these guys at least have a trailer to crash in - I know a number of pilots who sleep in the airport between trips.
Per the article's comment, "if they are not being paid enough to afford a hotel or apartment, maybe all our cheap tickets come with a horrible hidden cost we were not aware of" . . . there's no maybe about it - Capt Sullenburger was warning about this after his ditching in the Hudson, but no one was paying attention. An airline life is not desirable these days for experienced pilots with families who want job security. Long hours, crazy schedules, huge chunks of time away from home and family - the adverse affects on relationships, health, and finances aren't worth the 25% less they're making now than they were eight years ago. Therefore, the pilots entering the industry are younger and less experienced - and potentially less capable of pulling out the daily miracles that keep our airlines flying.

U2 Drummer Condemns Bono's Relationship With Politicians {Spinner}

Jan 6th 2009 12:42PM It's amazing isn't it - a friend tells a magazine something he's told Bono a million times before, and the headline has to be that he's "slamming him." Actually, his comment about Bono using his celebrity to help others, when there's no upside for himself or his family, is very complimentary, and seems to me to be the point of what Mullen is saying. It's a necessary evil that if you want to make a big difference in this world, at some point you have to court the politicians.

T&L names 2008's best, worst airlines for on time arrivals {Gadling}

Nov 22nd 2008 5:12PM And then there's the fact that Southwest calls their departure time at pushing back from the gate, whereas most other airlines log departure times as wheels in the well . . .

American Family Association calls for boycott of McDonald's {ParentDish}

Jul 6th 2008 10:05PM Is hate a Christian value? Sure seems like it these days. Oh yeah, Crusades, Inquisition . . .maybe that's been around longer than we like to think, too
