Sierra Designs Vapor 15 sleeping bag giveaway {Gadling}

Oct 6th 2010 11:59AM I'd use this bag in the winter months as I travel around the country, camping out at various chick-fil-a openings.

Why can't planes fly near volcanic ash? A (very) brief look at engine failure {Gadling}

Apr 20th 2010 8:14PM Really depends on which engine and which components. All modern engines have cooling holes in some blades, and most (if not all) newer engines have TBC coating in the combustor liner, and hottest turbine blades.

Paris Air Show 2009: The debut of a new Russian airliner the Sukhoi Superjet 100 {Gadling}

Jun 29th 2009 8:52PM Lets be honest, looking at the size of that plane we saw at the beginning, they'll never fit 98 people in there, what is this, an airplane for ants?! And ken, we all know you're the photography whiz...i've never seen tilt shift videos look that realistic, you really made that sukhoi look as big as an Embraer. How did you do that?

Should first class passengers get a shorter line at security? {Gadling}

Jun 29th 2009 8:04PM It appears from most of the comments here that few people understand how the first class/elite line works. Yes, you do get through faster, but its just to the initial boarding pass/ID check. After that, everyone is equal. the TSA scanners don't differentiate once the ID check has been done if you're coach on WN or in First on BA.

Also, remember elite passengers tend to fly ALOT more than joe and mary-sue from anytown USA. After going through security lines 100+ times/yr I can unholster my laptop , remove my shoes, belt, outerwear, and change, run it through and be on my way before most people get it through their heads they need to take off their sweatshirt. Most at least, its simply an issue of the TSA changing policies on a seemingly monthly basis and most people have more important things to focus on besides whether their shampoo is 3.3 or 3.4 oz.

Tourists return to hotel to find koala napping in bed {Gadling}

Jun 12th 2009 3:15PM Something similar happened to my friend Chris on a recent trip to Sydney. He walked into his room of the condo we were renting after a late night out in kings cross to find an entire colony of koalas on his bed. One of them came at him (one could say "like a spider monkey") so he had to punch it in the face. He spoked the whole colony and they scampered away and squeezed under the door like so many cockroaches.

10 passengers we love to hate: Day 10 - Aggressive seat recliners {Gadling}

Jun 12th 2009 2:41PM i take it you've never been on a 15 hour trans pacific flight...I can't imagine trying to sleep sitting straight up in a seat.

Life Nomadic: How Airport Metal Detectors Work {Gadling}

Mar 5th 2009 1:38PM First off, I don't think you really understand how a metal detector works because your explanation is flat out untrue and your passaround scheme is faulty logic. The razor blades sneak by because they're not very big, they are under the threshold of the detector, they won't make the detector go off regardless of their orientation.

Secondly, is it smart to be sneaking sharp things onto a plane? I'm gonna go with no. That's how people end up in prison, and justly so. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure you've committed at least one felony by publishing this. Stuff like this is how the terrorists win. Do you want the terrorists to win?
