Jillian Michaels Fights Back After Being Called a Fraud {That's Fit}
Oct 20th 2010 1:42PM I have been a personal trainer for almost 10 years. I think calling Jillian a "fraud" is defamatory. It's one thing to criticize her training skills. It's quite another to call her a fraud which suggests that she is a liar.
I don't watch the show, but I have watched some of her exercise DVDs. From what I hear, I have to agree that many of the techniques they use on the show are downright dangerous. However, I would guess that has more to do with the network and less to do with the trainers themselves.
It's easy for a specialist in a particular area to criticize someone else who isn't as competant in that area. For example, a dermatologist might criticize a general practitioner for the way she treated a skin condition. The same is true in fitness. Not every trainer is going to be highly skilled in every area of exercise. Each discipline has its quirks. Jillian may not be as skilled at teaching a spin class as someone who specializes only in teaching spin. The same goes with yoga and the rest of the specialties.
I have seen her DVDs. They're pretty good. Yes there are issues with form, but I have found this to be the case with most...the P90X guy and Billy Blanks are the worst offenders, in my opinion.
Travel Fashion No-No's {AOL Travel News}
Jul 1st 2010 2:52PM I know it is considered cosmopolitan and chic to emulate Europeans. There are those who fancy themselves as more cultured than the rest of the US and therefore make disparaging remarks about their fellow Americans. This superiority complex is lame.
Just because you have traveled to Europe once, twice or 400 times doesn't elevate your status. There is nothing superior about being a European. Be proud that you're an American and stop being pretentious. Saying that you have traveled to Europe might have been impressive years ago, but everyone and their Grandma has been there by now and it just doesn't have the impact it once had.
When traveling anywhere (a foreign country, a neighboring state, a town an hour away), we should follow one simple rule: show respect to the people and the culture. It's that simple. If it is considered rude to dress a certain way, then don't dress that way! But, if it comes down to simple fashion (like not wearing sneakers in Europe), but you are comfortable in them and no one is going to be offended but rather they will identify you as an American and think you look unstylish, but you like your sneakers, wear them! Who cares if people in Italy think sneakers are unstylish? Let them laugh.
And furthermore, why is it such a bad thing to be identified as an American? There are far worse things people could call you.
Maggots Force US Airways Flight to Return to Gate in Atlanta {AOL Travel News}
Jul 1st 2010 2:27PM Maybe someone put the spoiled meat into the passenger's bag unbeknownst to him. Perhaps he was an innocent victim of a scorned lover.
'Oprah Winfrey Show' Fades in Ratings {AOL TV}
Jul 1st 2010 1:54PM HD, don't you tell me what to do! I don't want Oprah telling me what to do on her show and I don't want you telling me to turn off my TV and plant flowers!
Ron Paul's Racist Newsletter Shows Problems in Republican Party {BV Black Spin}
Mar 23rd 2010 5:05PM Interesting. It was OK to write an article deeming the entire Republican party racist while at the same time taking issue with the generalizations and stereotypes made about your race. You're guilty of the same thing.
Vick Impressing Coaches, on Track to Debut Thursday {Fanhouse NFL Blog}
Aug 24th 2009 12:00PM Yeah, MKel, play the race card. A black man's life? I'm pretty sure Vick would still be among the living if he wasn't playing in the NFL. So, I guess by a "black man's life" you mean that Vick should make millions, own mansions, drive expensive cars and basically have more money and things than most other black men (or white men) will ever in their lives see?
Vick Impressing Coaches, on Track to Debut Thursday {Fanhouse NFL Blog}
Aug 24th 2009 11:43AM Michael Vick is a piece of garbage and Philadelphia should be ashamed to have hired such a pathetic excuse for a human being. I am honestly embarrassed to live in Pennsylvania at this point.
For those of you who use the lame argument that human life is more important than animal life, it's time to come up with something better. There is no reason to compare the two and it shouldn't be an either/or thing. Killing animals and humans are both heinous crimes! There's no need to debate it.
Secondly, for those of you who feel he did his time, you don't have the ability to think for yourselves. That's propoganda put out by Vick's people and the Eagles to make everyone think it's OK that he's playing and to forget his actions.
Yes, he did his time, but he should not be in the NFL. Let him get a regular job somewhere doing something where he is not serving as a role model to others. He does not belong in that role. He belongs at your local car wash or behind the scenes at a restaurant washing dishes with the other criminals.
Woman Fined $1.9 Million for Downloading 24 Songs {Switched}
Jun 22nd 2009 9:38AM The RIAA doesn't actually expect to get that money. They're doing it to make an example out of her. They need to very clearly send out the message that downloading music for which one has not paid is illegal and they will prosecute. Interestingly, they must have had a pretty good case as a jury of her peers awarded them such a large sum.
Yes, it's nice to be able to download music and not pay for it, but make no bones about it, it IS stealing. Just because the technology is available to copy music doesn't mean it isn't stealing. That is like saying that it isn't murder if you use a gun to kill someone because the technology is available to produce guns. There are other, non-illegal uses for this technology.
The RIAA is a business like any other. It's not going to last too long if it isn't making any money. You wouldn't expect to walk into Target or Costco or Nordstrom or the gas station and take their product for free. Doing so would be considered shoplifting. Intellectual property is no different. When you buy a CD, you're not paying much for the actual disc, you are paying for the music recorded on that disc. This is why you can buy several blank CDs for a few dollars, but a single CD containing music is worth at least 10 times as much.
If we want to continue to be entertained, we need to allow the record companies to make money. This woman took the risk of stealing and it didn't work out for her. She got what she deserved.
The dark side of Warren Buffett {BloggingStocks}
Dec 13th 2008 4:57PM She had the nerve to get on TV numerous times and comment on her grandfather. Now we're supposed to feel bad for her. I don't feel bad for her at all. And I don't think it's wrong that Warren doesn't acknowledge her as his granddaughter. Families look out for each other. Families don't get on television to talk about each other without the other person's knowledge or consent. She's the one who betrayed him. She deserves every penny she doesn't get.
The Most Irritating Phrases in the English Language {Lemondrop}
Nov 16th 2008 8:47PM I've always hated, "Moving right along." It is always said with this condescending, sing songy tone. You're at a lecture and the speaker welcomes questions, but someone asks a question he doesn't want to answer or he's tired of answering questions, so he responds with, "Moving right along..." I would almost prefer hearing him say what he's really thinking which is, "Shut up."
