TSA workers are blaming body scanners for cancer; D.C. public interest group calls for independent reviews {Gadling}

Jul 2nd 2011 4:02PM Marc, as someone with a Biochemistry degree, I can say that you are misinformed. Radiation damage does accumulate in the body. Why do you think hospitals have cut back on repeated CT scans in patients? Prolonged or repeated exposure to ionizing radiation causes increased amounts of damage to DNA and cell structure.

See http://www.rsna.org/Publications/rsnanews/September-2009/EHRs_feature.cfm and http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19710483 for starters.

States Stop Circumcisions Funds Amid Budget Crisis {ParentDish}

Jun 24th 2011 5:30PM That statement is not correct. As a gal with a Bio degree, let me set the record straight - the male glans (not the foreskin) is the analogue to the clitoris. So what you're suggesting would be akin to lopping off the entire head, not just cutting the foreskin.

As a personal preference, I prefer the look and feel of a circumcised man.

City Bans Breast-Feeding Children Older Than 2 in Public {ParentDish}

May 19th 2011 10:27PM Yes, breastfeeding is natural. But we need to respect others' feelings and use some tact and modesty. No need to belligerently whip out the boob in a crowded public place simply "because you can". Have some class and keep a private moment out of the public eye.

Why Are Companies Still So Inflexible With Working Mothers? {ParentDish}

Mar 25th 2011 8:20AM My mother had me when she was on the police force. She worked nights, mornings, and weekends. She never demanded special treatment, and I truly respect that commitment to her duty. She raised me just fine without throwing aside her career in some self-imagined need to smother a child. I enjoyed my independence and I thank my mother for working so hard to put a roof over our heads.

That, mg, is what a real working mom looks like.

Why Are Companies Still So Inflexible With Working Mothers? {ParentDish}

Mar 24th 2011 12:44PM Many women seem to think that the world revolves around them as soon as they have children. I assure you, it doesn't. As someone who has worked shift work in the past, I've seen excellent workers given the worst hours because all the day shifts were given to women with children instead. They would cry foul any time they were scheduled for nights or weekends, so the rest of us had to take the scraps. Our time is worth just as much as theirs, and they should not have taken a position with changing hours if they could not be flexible with their schedules.

Even now, in a professional setting, I see more of the same - mothers wanting preferential treatment. If you can't deal with the job, leave. Or just leave your entitlement at the door.

Glamour Cover Features 'Plus-Size' Model -- But Which One Is She? {Lemondrop}

May 6th 2010 10:27AM Magazines still have a long way to go to depict an average-sized woman, let alone an actual plus-sized model. This woman is not a plus size by any stretch of the imagination. How about a photoshoot with Latifah?

And to Derrel, you are a bitter, ignorant lowlife whose vitriol assues that you will almost certainly die alone. You are a sniveling, pathetic excuse for a human being. You clearly have no idea how difficult it is to face discrimination, because you're crippled on the inside where nobody can see. But your hateful nature will eat away at your soul until there's nothing left but a bitter husk of a human. Oh, and if you think you'll never have to face difficulties with your weight, wait until you hit 40 - you're in for a surprise. Have fun.

Reading the fine print on retailer's return policies {WalletPop}

Nov 19th 2009 10:05AM These policies have been put in place because people abuse the returns system. I work at an electronics store and have seen people purchase 60-inch televisions the day before the Super Bowl and then return them the day after. We can't just tape up the box and put it back on the floor - we have to send it halfway across the country back to the manufacturer. It costs us far more to ship that item back than we recoup with any restocking fee.

We don't charge the fee for an item that is defective and exchanged. But we can't just eat the loss every time a customer rips open the packagaing and decides they don't like the product (or just wants to "rent" it for a week). Don't buy on impulse, do your research, and you can avoid a lot of issues.

Scientists Baffled by Big-Girl Booty News {Lemondrop}

Nov 3rd 2008 4:26PM Of course guys dig the big girls. It's like they say -

"Meat is for men, bones are for dogs."

Don't Kiss Your Girlfriend at Safeco Field (Note: Applies Only to Women) {Fanhouse MLB Blog}

Jun 3rd 2008 10:06AM The amount of overgeneralization and spite in some of these comments just baffles me. Guess what - not all of us who are straight Christians have a problem with gays. And those of you who do push your filthy hate speech under the guise of religion need to remember what Jesus stood for, which is love and acceptance. He taught and loved those who society had cast out. So bashing people because of their orientation is pure hypocrisy and ignorance on your part. And you make the rest of us look bad by association.

If two girls or guys want to share a kiss in a public setting, it's their right every bit as much as it's your right to kiss an opposite-gender partner. Don't ruin a simple act of affection with petty hatred. It just makes the world less pleasant for everyone.
