Ohio's cinematic spots: An Intelligent Travel report {Gadling}
Jul 16th 2008 10:20AM You can visit the prison where Shawshank was filmed in Mansfield, OH, along with lots of other locations from the movie. In fact, you can spend the night in the prison! They have tours, which are fantastic, as well as Ghost Hunts (the prison is reportedly haunted). During Ghost Hunts, you spend the night and have pizza in the warden's office for $50. The Ghost Hunts typically sell out well in advance, though. There are many other sites in Mansfield on the Shawshank Redemption Tour. Check out mansfieldtourism.com for the trail details. Also, there is an awesome haunted house there every October.
Canopy Tours: Ohio and Malaysia {Gadling}
May 28th 2008 9:36AM I've been on the Hocking Hills Canopy Tour three times now and it is the most incredible experience. One one zip, a hawk flew by right by my face. It was the closest thing to flying through the tree tops like a bird you'll experience. On another zip, deer went running under our line. It really is great. Check out www.1800hocking.com for info on the whole area, cabins, dining, lodging, etc. There are great canoe, climbing and kayak outfitters in the area as well.
