Amazing Race 14, Recap finale: Maui, Hawaii where pigs are heavy {Gadling}

May 11th 2009 5:52PM Agreed. Knowing Chinese was a massive advantage for the eventual winners. However, the race really came down to a couple items. Victor and Tammy almost got eliminated in one leg - if it wasn't for a missed flight by another team they would have been last place in that leg by a long shot. Also, Margie and Luke had a large lead but he got stymied by the surf boards. So as it turned out - it was anyone's game to win in the last episode, although it's true knowing Chinese and spending so much time in China really helped Tami and Victor get to the final three.

Gadling Giveaway: Road Trip USA {Gadling}

Apr 20th 2009 5:37PM The National Parks of Utah are a must-see in my mind. You can't go wrong with any of them - Capitol Reef is my favorite because of the solitude and scenery, but Zion and Bryce Canyon are amazing as well. I've been in all seasons except winter and believe the canyons of Utah are one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

During hard economic times, lawyer gets paid to travel {Gadling}

Apr 14th 2009 11:13AM Interesting story. I wonder how many of the 1,000 are taking the offer. My guess is not many. Although $80,000 sounds like a lot (myself included) - to others it's chump change.

Visit Yellowstone this summer minus the crowds {Gadling}

Apr 12th 2009 12:23PM Do it! Yellowstone is great and you can beat the crowds by booking a backcountry permit. You'll hardly see anyone and there's some amazing sights. I recommend Lone Start geyser - it's only 3 miles one way on flat terrain.

London notes: American tourists abandoning the city {Gadling}

Aug 20th 2008 4:25PM The Oyster card example is a little misleading. You pay 3 Pounds ($5.50) as a deposit for the card which you can get back when you return the card. So I don't see how you could spend $24.18 but only have $10 in ride credit. But I'm not disagreeing that London is expensive. On a trip there this summer it cost 70 Pounds ($130) for four people at an Indian Restaurant - and it wasn't even a fancy restaurant. On the other hand, all the museums are free...

Whose miles are worth what where? {Gadling}

Aug 20th 2008 4:14PM Agreed that USAir ranks at the bottom. Whenever I look at redeeming my miles it I'm faced with either blackout dates or having it cost me 50,000 miles EACH WAY to travel within the lower 48. Although I really should use up my miles before USAir goes bankrupt for real, which I also agree is probably soon.
