Woman Fined $1.9 Million for Downloading 24 Songs {Switched}

Jun 22nd 2009 1:00PM um ok this is insanity. the point of the matter is not whether or not she did download, afterall that was already settled twice in court by her being found guilty. the point is this is cruel and unusual punishment. a) songs are worth 0.99 to what $2? so who are they to demand 10k then 80k for the illegal download. the award should not have been greater than like $20 a song! b) cruel and unusual punishment is one that you very well know the person found guilty is going to be unable to do and is never heard of. no average mother (no matter how guilty) has so much spending money to pay either award (240k or 1,9 mill). I say she has grounds for an appeal. not so she gets to be found not guilty (although possible), but so that these imbecilles learn they cant go around and destroy peoples lives with greedy award amounts. if i were in her shoes, id take the court paper and mail it them covered in manure and never pay. will i go to jail? yes. but at the same time people would side with me in knowing my refusal to pay is due to the unjust treatment i received in court. and eventually like always happens in this country, i will be awarded a new trial with a smaller reward if found guilty or will live my life in jail while members of the populace scream for real change and fairness.

KFC sues over flammable takeout {WalletPop}

Apr 13th 2009 11:50PM wait what? they switched the container to one that has carbon and THAT'S the reason it is flamable? Last time I checked, ALL plastic containers have carbon. Pretty much all items we use have carbon. And I highly doubt carbon is to blame in first place. Place a "lead" stick in your microwave and tell me that it erupted in flames. I think not, and you just "nuked" solid graphite (a.k.a. solid carbon). Yeah, no, it was not carbon. Too high a flash point. If anything, they are using an unstable metal compound. Then I would believe a spark occured. And to those who want to say I'm wrong, then go read up on plastic. It is, for the most part, a fossil fuel bi-product. That's right, its main component is hydrocarbons! (The solid plastic has other chemicals so it can harden...and guess what even those chemicals have at least one carbon atom in them...for goodness sakes it's like everywhere!)

Woman Billed for a Break-Up {Lemondrop}

Feb 25th 2009 10:58PM OK i have easily spent $300 on a girl i have liked for 2 years now trying to get her to sway my way. Now that I finally asked, she rejected. Am I gonna ask for my money back? Hell no. Thats stupid. Each dollar was spent on good faith and kindness. They include V-day and birthday gifts, as well as the typical and fancy lunch out. We have been friends all this time and still are. If this guy was a real guy, he would just suck it up and move on...although that plain ticket is real steep, he should have really gone half on that one. But me, Ill still continue on giving my friend an ocasional gift on her birthday (obviously V-day is no longer a choice). And for lunch, I insist on paying. After all im inviting.

Florida Struck With Three Cyber Attacks in One Week {Switched}

Feb 24th 2009 2:16AM you forgot to mention the one big one. State of Florida just recently stopped selling personal information to thrid parties. Law was passed years ago, they just stopped within the last few months. The sold our social security numbers, names, addresses, phone numbers. hell i bet they sold the information on what our farts smell like too.

Girl Scouts shrink cookies, customers shrink sales {WalletPop}

Feb 23rd 2009 1:41PM All i have to say is THIN MINTS! I love em. Last year I bought a box every week when I did groceries. I just can't get enough of them. Yeah I gained like 2 pounds, but they left a month after cookie sales ended. Whenever I see them this year again, and I have the money to spend, i'll buy my box of Thin Mints. So there are 2 less cookies in abnox? So what? It isn't like big companies are doing. They are cuttin packages in HALF and keeping the same price. Now that to me is stupid. Taking out only 2 out of hat is it? 20 cookies? Yeah that isn't anything big. Now if they took out 10, then yeah they would lose me.

Heathrow annoying, Americans rude according to some social network {Gadling}

Feb 23rd 2009 1:28PM To the guy saying Miami is worst, I have to tell you its heaven compared to others. But so you know, Miami International Airport is a victim of crooked politicians and greedy construction companies. The poor place was set for upgrades/remodel years ago, and to this day it still isn't finished. Us (yes im a Miamian) taxpayer are paying now the cost overruns (well into the millions). I have never encountered bad people there. Security may be rude at times, but then again MIA is a hot spot for terrorist and criminal entery. I believe second to New York. So it is understandable that security is always on edge.

Summer jobs for teens, a good thing? {ParentDish}

Jun 18th 2006 1:45PM Well I see most here said they HAD. How about getting a teen's perspective? I AM a teen that has a job...basically year round. My first though was for Summer. It isn't as great as it seems in today's world. Most teens go in all cool thinking they are the best because they have a job and others don't. Well once they get to work they realize that work is NOT fun and they don't want to work. So the few teens that don't mind the labor and actually work, like a true employee, get stuck picking up the slack for those lazy good for nothing ones. This in turn makes that teen more vulnerable to increased work hours (with your consent or not.....most managers see teens as a cheaper work force anyway so we are expendable to them)and limited time to even breath. For instance, when I started my Summer job at a supermarket, I worked no more than 25 hours a week when it was a busy week. By the time I felt overwhelmed by the new school year and work, I took a look to try and schedule some school work time and noticed that somewhere along the line I was working almost 30 hours a week....at one time 31, that was 1 hour more than the labor laws of the state even allow for minors. It was pathetic. The good hard working teens left fast, the lazy ones got fired, and the whole time management just really didn't care about OUR time needs.

All in all, I say if you parents want to teach good money saving skills, don't be lazy and wait until the kid is old enough for employment. Start early with a allowance. Start small and slow give them "pay raises" along the way. If they behave bad give them a dock in pay. That way they have all the time to do school work, volunteer, or whatever they need time for. When the parent controls the kids budget early, they can force them to think creatively on ways to save. Heck I still remember how I would just put my gift money under my clothes so I would forget it's there and not touch it.

My final words are: if you want a job to be the one to teach good saving tactics, you need to re-evaluate your tihnking. Stop this laziness of wanting others to do the teaching. YOU are the parent, you show them the way from the begining. The workforce and school are not daycare centers for the parent to leave their kid and have them learn things the parent should teach. So get to it.
