Sandals cause skin cancer {ParentDish}
Jun 17th 2008 1:58PM The tops of your feet probably get neglected when applying sunscreen. Unfortunately, that skin seems thin and fragile -- easily damaged. Don't forget that kids who get sunburn are more likely to develop skin cancer later in life -- so cover them up! -- Family Travel Girl www.familytravelgirl.com
Overhead bins become hot commodity once again {Gadling}
Jun 17th 2008 1:50PM "People might just start traveling light." This is the best advice yet! After years of lugging heavy suitcases filled with things that never got worn, I am now a big believer in traveling light. Not only do we pack a minimum amount of "stuff," but we always plan to do sink washing on longer trips (using a travel clothesline). Buying quick drying shirts, pants, (CoolMax) socks, and underwear for your travel wardrobe is a smart idea! -- Family Travel Girl (www.familytravelgirl.com)
Tomatoes blamed for Salmonella outbreak {ParentDish}
Jun 9th 2008 10:54PM Our local Jimmy John's pulled their tomatoes today, too! My husband and I think we got sick last week after eating off the "fresco" (fresh chopped tomatoes) menu at a local (Illinois) Taco Bell. Be safe! -- Family Travel Girl - www.familytravelgirl.com
36 shootings, 9 homicides. A weekend in Chicago {Gadling}
Apr 24th 2008 10:47PM Your friends have been watching too many movies -- you know the ones . . . where the famous action stars are shot at, stabbed, thrown out of a car, and live to show up in the next scene. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen in real life. Keep your friends safe and ditch the "urban ghettour" idea. -- Your Chicagoland FamilylTravelGirl

Colorado ski deaths set a record this year {Gadling}
Apr 10th 2008 8:45AM Our family just got back from skiing in Garmisch-Partenkirchner, Germany a week ago. We hadn't skiied in a while, so we hired a guide for a few hours to get us going. Thanks Werner! It was beautiful! (I'm hoping to get a few pictures up this week on my blog: http://www.familytravelgirl.com) The Zugspitze is an awesome sight to behold. Anyway, I think that safe skiing starts with the parents. My husband and I had a conversation with our son about the possible dangers of skiing and the fact that it's his responsibility to steer clear of other skiiers. Parents -- talk to your kids so that they'll grow up to be the kind of respectful skiiers/snowboarders that you'll be proud of!
Airline to charge $35 for customer service {Gadling}
Apr 7th 2008 11:13PM Who was the genius that came up with this idea? This sounds like a sure-fire way to get your customers upset with you. I imagine that the customer will be unhappy at having to rebook a flight anyway . . . then go ahead and tell them that you're charging them to speak with these "specially-trained customer service agents." That'll really fan the flames. If they really need to raise ticket prices, why don't they just build it into the ticket price. Next they'll start charging you to use the restroom--and double it if you want to go "beyond the curtains" to use the bathroom in the next cabin class. LOL!
