Big in Japan: Why 30 is the new 20 {Gadling}
Aug 28th 2008 3:51AM Interesting article. 30 years old seemed to always be a time of consternation for unmarried Japanese women when I used to live there.
Minor point: I think the phrase should be %u30A2%u30E9%u30B5%u30FC (arasa-) from %u30A2%u30E9%u30A6%u30F3%u30C9%u30B5%u30FC%u30C6%u30A3 (araundo sa-tei - with the last i being a small i)

Big in Japan: A taster's guide to green tea {Gadling}
Mar 29th 2008 8:56AM 緑茶 : I thought this literally meant green tea?
緑: meaning green & 茶: meaning tea
Another type of Japanese word worth knowing is for the tea more prevalent in western countries:
紅茶 (こうちゃ/koucha): black tea, (i.e. not green tea)
Though I have heard of (and eaten) genmai (玄米) I don't think I have ever tried genmaicha (玄米茶)... I think I'll give that a try the next time I am in Japan.
