Summer travel woes? How about a staycation? {Gadling}
Jun 5th 2008 4:44PM I hear you Jeremy, but I agree with Brian and others, be careful how cavalier you go about telling people they will always have money to travel.
Speaking from experience, I have never in my adult life forgone a planned vacation or cancelled our pre-requisite three or four trips across the globe each year. However, for the first time ever I am feeling the pinch. We have booked a house on Oahu's north shore for the fall but airfare has not dropped below $1200/rt pp. Mind you, my wife and I flew to Athens two years ago for $900 total. We're considering a trip to San Francisco instead.
I think Gadling and it's writers could turn a cheek towards the frugal traveler now and again here - seeing as many of your readers are now reading Budget Travel instead of Condé Nast.
My $0.02...
The tradition of pigeon feeding in Venice's St. Mark's Square is over {Gadling}
May 12th 2008 3:32PM My childhood consists of iconic pictures and memories of St Marks Square (which my brother affectionately called Pigeon Square) and feeding these obviously detested birds. A picture lives on in my parents home of a pigeon perched atop his head.
A tradition sadly ends.
TripSay and the world of "travel 2.0" (score a beta invite from Gadling) {Gadling}
Apr 18th 2008 2:44PM I think this is another great addition to the space, and look forward to using it. I am a long-time user of TripAdvisor and Tripit.com. Both great resources for the traveler.
Passing the time on your long flight {Gadling}
Mar 28th 2008 10:02AM I got lost for 2 hours on a Delta flight between JFK and Atlanta playing on-board trivia. The game, played on the aircrafts in-seat video equipment, pits you against other passengers through various rounds of trivia questions. Novel idea to pass the time.
