Turbocharged Prius planned? {Autoblog}
Jun 12th 2006 2:40AM Regarding the technical comments and questions that are submitted with serious inquiry, I am sure that a university level course in thermodynamics and heat engines would resolve these issues. But just because this knowledge is currently absent from these writers does not preclude the dream of us having an answering session with disscussion over a sandwich at an auto company lab. Dream's over, I'll answer with some questions first. Have you noticed that the exhaust gas temperature and pressure on any ICE is always greater than atmospheric? How would you best harness this energy and keep it from being wasted? (Ideally you want to discharge your exhaust gas at atmospheric temp & press.)Can you conceive of a turbocharger being a gas tubine powered air compressor? On any engine? And that it already is automatically controlled for max power or economy? How can we get super low emissions using dirty fuel (diesel) fuel? If we put sulphur in, won't it come right back out in the exhaust? Doesn't this preclude diesel engines until we have 100% low sulphur fuel? And finally, does anyone know an honest Prius operator that can attain anything near the label fuel? I couldn't get close with mine, actual was farther from label than any vehicle I've ever had. Replaced it with a Focus and get label + or -.
