Tennessee Home Burns as Firefighters Watch {AOL Real Estate}

Dec 7th 2011 2:46PM by Taxed to Death - December 7th 2011 @ 2:15PM

"Uh, if property taxes don't pay for municiple services in Tenneesee, I'd be interested what they pay for and if that isn't delineated in the Law - I'd ask the People of that municipality to get it in writing now. I've seen people write on here denigrating the family for not paying the $75. Ahuh, so this "new revenue stream" was approved in a referendum? In many municipalities what one's property taxes pay for are listed."

Idiot! The house was not in the city! County residents do not pay city taxes. The city residents get fire protection from the taxes THEY pay. Why in heck do you think the city taxpayers should pay for county residents who voted not to have their own fire department? If I lived in the city and they gave away city property or labor I would vote the bastards out.

"I understand that they need to enforce the fee, but simply standing by and allowing the home to burn does seem pretty callous. Any fire threatening a home should be put out. Then, if someone had not paid the fee, maybe they could be retroactively assessed an amount two or three times the original fee, with failure to pay the assessment resulting in jail time."

Debra, if they put out fires for those that do not pay, how many do you think would pay? If no one paid then the city would not respond to a call OUTSIDE of the city limits, putting lives at risk. A city CANNOT enforce taxes, penlites or fees on anyone outside its city limits.

"I dont understand why there isnt a municipal tax that covers everyone? Maybe the Mayor should think about enacting a public safety tax that includes the fire department."

Craig, did you work hard to get that stupid or were you born that way. The house was NOT in the city. The city CAN'T tax county residents. The mayor CAN'T force them to pay the fee. The city graciously offers fire protection to those outside the city for a small yearly fee. I bet you think you should have car insurance without paying for it. Idiot!

Dec 7th 2011 11:31AM This was NOT inside the town where the voters paid taxes to pay for their fire department. This was a home out in the county. The county does not have a fire department because the voters in the county voted not to pay for one. The city graciously allows county residents to buy "fire fighting insurance" for a $75 fee. How long do you think the mayor would remain mayor if he said "what the heck, we'll provide fire protection to the county for free, our voters will be glad to pay for it."? The fire department made sure no one was in danger. Now the homeowners insurance will have to pay to replace what was lost.

U.K.-Israeli Tensions Flare Over Assassination of Hamas Official {Politics Daily}

Feb 20th 2010 10:37PM Despicable!! They should have used Predator drones like we do.

Professor Shoots Two Black Scholars at U. Alabama-Huntsville {BV Black Spin}

Feb 19th 2010 3:05PM I have got to add a commit. The shooter was a well known uber-liberal. She was well known for very vocal support of The president. So much so that Democrats and supporters of the President said she was off-putting and embarrassing. Two of the six people she shot were African-American. To now imply she was some kind of closet raciest is shocking. This is a rush to judgment based of the fact the shooter was white. Please do not cheapen the work and sacrifice of others just to score a cheap shoot.

'A Wake-Up Call' for Rural America {Politics Daily}

Feb 19th 2010 9:13AM One of the statements in this article is about less health care in rural counties. The pediatrician that my kids went to closed his practice in our rural county. He had two offices. One in our county and one in a mid size city 30 miles away. He got paid less for an office visit in the rural county than he did for the same visit in the city. The government and insurance companies told him the cost of living was less in the rural county than in the city so he did not need as much money. I was skeptical but when I checked on this I found out he was telling the truth. The same for pharmacies even though the pharmacies paid the same amount for the drugs, the pharmacist was supposed to make less in the country. Now we have to drive 60 miles round trip for the kids to see a doctor. And everyone wonders why there is less health care out in the country.

Johnny Weir 'Loves Wearing Dead Animals,' Calls Animal Rights Activists 'Crazy Fur People' {Stylelist (Main)}

Feb 18th 2010 8:51AM Connie, do you ware leather? Shoes? Belts maybe? Eat meat? If so, you are a naive hypocrite. PETA slaughters more pets than any other group in America. They pick up cats and dogs from animal shelters and gas them. Better dead than a slave to some human. Their logic is so screwed up I don't where to start criticizing it. Weird nut jobs is all I can say.

Plane Answers: The Frontline episode regional airlines don't want you to see {Gadling}

Feb 10th 2010 7:49AM Tim, what profits? In the history of the airline industry, airlines have lost more money than they have made. Investors keep pouring in more money in hopes that this time will be different. This new money is the only reason that any airline is still flying. Passengers sure don't pay what it cost to keep the plane flying. The airline business is all about testosterone and who has the biggest market share, not about profits. Most airline top executives exhibit behavior that you would recognize in a bully in grade school. Passengers don't give a hoot weather the airline makes money or not. They go online and buy the lowest cost ticket listed. They get what they pay for. Cheap flights from the lowest cost producer.

Girl Scout cookies by the numbers: Just where do all those dollars go? {WalletPop}

Feb 6th 2010 11:16PM You did not read the article. The local troop and area council (generally all the troops in a county) get $2.65. The money is divided .57 for individual projects within a troop and $2.08 to support area actives including camps and training. Boy Scouts generally leave most of public fund raising money with the local troops and seek corporate donations for area councils.
