Sep 30th 2009 9:32AM Johnathan is right - and it is senseless and ignorant to stand in a circle and shoot from the right about who is using it. It just perpetuate that without which society is better off without.
The US government, like narcissus, heeds no other international lesson - it likes other governments merely to echo what the US government says and do.
In South-Africa, at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission international scholars came, observed and documented great analysis of the nature of language and what it does - because language do effect and change things. For that reason it is illegal to use racist terms there.
The fact that it is still used is no excuse - if anyone against whom it is used is so moved, s/he may lay charges and legally pursue the matter.
In the US, it seems making a buck is all that matters and society live in Hobbsians social conditions.
Hats off to Jonathan - there's hope for this society!

Jun 12th 2008 2:15PM About three years ago exactly the same aircraft went missing in Luanda, Angola. It has been linked to coup attempts in one or the other African country.
The plane mysteriously left South-Africa and went missing in Angola.
Not sure whether it's connected with the coup attempt against the Central African Republic.
