Pub Etiquette: This ain't no American bar {Gadling}

Nov 2nd 2009 11:15AM There is an excellent article on British Pub Etiquette here (http://www.sirc.org/publik/pub.html) and goes into the history and lots of do's and dont's.

Plane Answers: Sleeping gas to thwart terrorists, longer winter takeoffs and which aircraft is the smoothest in rough air {Gadling}

Mar 23rd 2009 12:36PM A few years back, I had the misfortune of learning that in Denver there is such a thing as "too hot to fly". It was an August day and the CRJ was grounded due to the heat. I thought the gate agents were pulling a prank, but the pilot did tell us that due to the altitude and heat, they couldn't get enough lift off the wings till it cooled down later that evening. Of course, the pilots timed out and they canceled the flight anyway.

Earn your exit row seat, prove you can save lives {Gadling}

Mar 17th 2009 3:43PM I've got mixed feelings on exit row seating. For short hops - no problem and love them. On a TATL I'm not really a believer. I fly ATL-MAN several times a year and have tried the exit rows a few times (including a flight next week as the exit row window was all that was left). Insulation aside, those exit seats get mighty cold flying at 35k feet just south of Iceland. With the tray tables also in the armrest, you have less seat width too. Doesn't make for a comfortable 'nap' on the overnight flights.

Of course, I appreciate the extra legroom which is a good trade, but just don't forget to grab an extra blanket before settling in.

So how do we get that Airbus 320 out of the Hudson River? {Gadling}

Jan 27th 2009 12:32PM a person that lived in an apartment overlooking where it was tied to the pier recorded a series of time lapse videos as well - including some where you can see the ice flows seriously impacting the fuselage.

10 travel related things you just don't see any more {Gadling}

Jan 20th 2009 2:47PM How about printed schedules at the ticket counter. I can't remember when they stopped putting these out, but I remember as a kid flipping through them picking out places I'd love to go someday.

French museums soon free for visitors under 25? Oui! {Gadling}

Jan 14th 2009 7:49PM I just returned from Paris having been there right after New Years and the Louve at least was free for everyone on the day we were there (Jan 4). Was a pleasant surprise.

Of course we had a nightmare leaving Paris too, with Air France nightmares on Jan5-6 due to an inch of snow a CDG

More free miles for Delta passengers {Gadling}

Nov 20th 2008 4:03PM Actually, if I understand this correctly, its dealing with Delta partners alone - not air travel itself.

Read the fine print.

10 Holiday tips for Getting Through the Airport {Gadling}

Nov 17th 2008 12:33PM I'm traveling on both Thanksgiving day (domestic) and Christmas day (Transatlantic) just to avoid the larger crowds. This time of year, I always avoid northern airports like JFK or ORD for the simple reason of increased possibility of winter weather delays. Opting for ATL decreases those chances significantly.

Brave the hurricanes for cheap cruises this month! {Gadling}

Sep 9th 2008 10:04AM Interestingly enough, I just got back a few days ago from a 5 day Royal Caribbean cruise that I purchased last-minute. Got a great deal and ocean view stateroom as well. We sailed our original itinerary and followed Gustav towards Mexico / Belize and got back before Ike showed up. The only concern I really had was Hannah who churned up the east coast of Florida, but even then the seas were not bad at all. In fact, other than the last day - the seas was smooth as glass.
Its not really good for repeat business if cruise ships sail into a storm with a shipload of sick passengers. The captain kept us informed but was really good on steering clear of any problems. Quite enjoyable in fact and quite the deal I must say as well.
