Nov 11th 2007 2:33AM I am not a fan of Oprah. But I do have thyroid disease and was diagnosed in 1987. This is a very complex problem that affects many areas of the body. It has been no picnic, believe me. I wish her well as she will be battling this for the rest of her life. I don't agree with her "therapy" of going on vacation for a month and supposedly being cured. I can assure you all the vacations I have taken since I was diagnosed have not cured my condition. She needs to be real and accepting of her diagnosis and use her celebrity to put out all the information she can to her fans. And men get this disease, too. My father had it and his brother still does. So does his sister and my Mom. But it does not discriminate. Even if there is no prior family history it can still happen to anyone. So for all the people out there who think it's not a big deal, just keep in mind it can happen to you, too.
