Drew Barrymore Debuts Red Hair Color {Stylelist (Main)}
Apr 15th 2011 1:32AM I was watching movies with Drew's grandfather and his brother (John and Lionel). It is amazing how the facial qualities of these guys and their sister, Ethyl, have been inherited by Drew. She, of course, got all the best features.
Luxury Travel: Four Seasons New York's $35,000 a night Ty Warner Penthouse {Gadling}
Mar 17th 2011 10:28PM This outrageous extravagance is precisely what is causing so much discontent and anger in America. The world is spinning out of control, and there are actually human beings on this planet who will pay for this indulgence?? The wealthy had better stop advertising their grotesque squandering of resources -- many empires have fallen for far less inequity among the masses. When 400 individuals in the U.S. have wealth equal to 50% of the population(155 million people!), that is a scenario worthy of the French and Russian revolutions. The widening gap between the top 1% and everyone else is a recipe for disaster.
Dior Designer John Galliano Is Fired; Natalie Portman 'Deeply Shocked and Disgusted' by His Anti-Semitic Remarks {Stylelist (Main)}
Mar 1st 2011 5:36PM The House of Dior should be commended for their prompt and decisive response to one of their employees. They are obviously concerned about their integrity and financial success. Also, Natalie Portman also deserves credit. There are still companies and individuals willing to counteract hate speech of a racial, religious, and ethnic nature.
Divorce and Debt: What You Owe and What You Don't {WalletPop}
Mar 1st 2011 1:22PM Both partners need to insist on sharing finances, including mutual sharing of credit records, payment of bills, and full disclosure of spending and earnings BEFORE they tie the knot. A solid, carefully crafted prenup is essential, and can avoid a lot of problems if a divorce occurs. This takes a willingness to recognize that marriage is not only an emotional commitment, but a commitment to the mutual financial stability of the couple. If both partners are not willing to promote the financial stability and growth of the whole, that should raise significant red flags for the future. It is amazing how many men and women are willing to share their emotions, but continue to keep their financial matters secret.
Britney Spears Debuts 'Epic' 'Hold It Against Me' Video {AOL Music Blog}
Feb 18th 2011 1:09AM If this singer or so many like her had to take the stage without props, synthesizers, dancers, smoke, mirrors, pyrotechnics, correcting apparatus, she would be an absolute disaster. I am sick and tired of having promoters stuff this freaky trash down our throats. Of course, we can turn it off unless we like to watch sports, television shows, or the radio. The commercials are permeated with this tripe. As Alistair Cooke said many decades ago, this is simply "freakishness masquerading as creativity".
Piers Morgan Gives Himself a B+ So Far, Says He Wants 'Mesmeric' Sarah Palin {PopEater}
Feb 12th 2011 1:29AM I tried to listen to this guy interview the twins who claim the rights to Facebook. Morgan interrupted these guests so frequently that it was possible to get anything out of the interview. Tried again the next night -- same problem. I was not particularly fond of Larry King, but he was patient and not so intent on being edgy and confrontational.
Does Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Rip Off Madonna's 'Express Yourself'? {PopEater}
Feb 11th 2011 3:48PM Just wondered how long it would take for someone to link this story to Obama. It is absolutely phenomenal how this one man can be involved in millions of issues at one time.
Does Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Rip Off Madonna's 'Express Yourself'? {PopEater}
Feb 11th 2011 3:44PM It is another sign of how our culture is slipping. Plagiarism is now called homage, as lying is just a "misunderstanding". I am always reminded of Alistair Cooke's observation of how frequently freakishness masquerades as creativity. It seems that art forms do this more and more frequently. Remember: Give the people a good show, and they may forget about talent.
Joan Rivers Reams Christina Aguilera Over Star-Mangled Banner {PopEater}
Feb 7th 2011 3:52PM I agree that a singer of this gal's experience should have been able to sing one of the most familiar songs in the world. She certainly has conquered stage fright by now. What was so appalling was the way she rendered a revered and symbolic part of our history. Every word was extended by several vowels and the pitch went everywhere. Thank God Francis Scott Key was not here to suffer through this travesty. (Do you think the singer even knows who wrote this iconic tribute?)
New Lady Gaga Song & House of Mugler Short Film [FULL VIDEO] {Stylelist (Main)}
Jan 20th 2011 4:34PM What's the big fuss? This is just another example of what Alistair Cook labeled "freakishness masquerading as creativity". It is neither dark or profound -- just banal. Great fashion designers or singers do not have to go for the shock value to sell their work. It is not "pushing the boundaries" or opening new paths to enlightenment. The song is extremely monotonous and boring, and the skeleton man is a distraction.
