Port Orange HOA Tells Residents Yard Statues Aren't Allowed {AOL Real Estate}
Apr 6th 2013 12:23PM I see nothing wrong with 'yard art' if it's not, as the gentleman said, 'gaudy'! I wouldn't want to live next door to a family of pink, life sized pelicans, surely, but an angel, of moderate height, an egret, again of moderate height...I see no problem. (A Gnome, I would have a problem with, as I find them annoying, but if it's small and unassuming, then it's not my business). Why a Hoop would be out of bounds is beyond me? Everything, of course, is relative but sports equipment and the like, I see nothing wrong with. Only if, again, things like pink pelicans started going up, would I take issue as they are built and colored to call attention to them. I have a St. Francis, (more appropriate now than ever before) with a dove resting on his shoulder, made of granite and the color of granite, about 30" high, not even a yard, and he is placed in what I call my 'tranquility circle' with a bench and azaleas' surrounding the area, all under a flowering Cherry tree. Have gotten complements on the idea, by many neighbors, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim...never a complaint. It doesn't stand out and it's special to me. Others seem to like the idea of it, too. I think, once again, we have little people flexing what muscles they can to appear strong, barking out orders (while in this case, breaking them) to make themselves feel self important. Unless something is a truly repugnant replication of a piece of art, I se no reason to kvetch about it. If there was a life sized Greek statue, Pink Flamingo's (again), naked Greek Olympians or the like. Yes, art is relative and subject to individual tastes but on the whole, we all know what tacky is and is not. Stay away from tacky, and there shouldn't be a problem, contracts or no. here are bigger and more serious issues to be dealt with. No?
A Message From the AOL.com Team {Portalblog}
Dec 21st 2012 9:12AM I am hopeful but not enthusiastic. I would love for the above rules and regs to become a reality, but the nation is not united, about anything, nevertheless gun control. Perhaps is everyone went through what those in CT are presently going through, or what I went through, being a victim of gun violence, myself and seeing my partner shot in the head at the same time...dying in my lap 8 minutes later, those who are so gung ho on maintaining their rights (which are not even accurate, is the right to bear arms offers the condition..in order to form a militia...not be out there taking people out whenever one feels in the slightest way, threatened..then those, too, might change their minds about their love for weaponry. Am glad that the nation is beginning to organize and show the NRA and the politicians that cow tow to them but am so, so bereaved that 20 little kids and 6 educators and a mom, had to die to get us to this point. We can never get them back, or imagine their fear...well, most can't. We must do what we must and if the NRA and their associates cannot bend, then we must force them to do so. Is there a choice?
Jeffrey Mitchell of Miramar Beach, Fla., Displays 'Sex Offender' Sign in His Front Yard {AOL Real Estate}
Dec 8th 2012 3:04PM I see daily how easy it might be to have one of these sights, whether it be for child porn, adult porn, bestiality, etc...on your computer as they come disguised in so many ways in emails that might, per se, be labeled, 'from Facebook' and you open it...and then you're screwed, for life. Simply because your IP address has porn on it does not mean you sought it out. Someone, somewhere, has my Facebook, friends list and I get mail from these 'friends' all the time. I opened one up, once, and then I saw ad's for sexual enhancement toys and pills and knew it couldn't be real, as it was from a cousin. I now see the pattern as on my Facebook page, I use my middle name, and when get these emails, it says it's from 'friend/name' to my first and middle name, and though I sign my name with both, no one calls me by both. I've notified AOL and Facebook, but nothing is done. I never, now, open anything unless I am 100% sure who it is form. Also, in pursuing these sex offenders, do they look for patterns or simply a one time event? I could see if the man had a pattern of having child porn sites over months or years on their IP address, but a one time deal? Absolutely not. These laws have to be reworded so the true criminals are found and those who simply had something on their computer, who, per se, a housecleaner might have put on it, are not taken for all they have and forever labeled with a 'scarlet ' on their record. Someone, a writer, might also look at a site like the above, to write about, but is not reading it for gratification, at all. Is he to be charged? No, laws need to be reworded, rethought and reimplemented. Just makes one think in what direction things are moving and just how many witches need to be burned before the laws are adjusted. Peace!
Stranded Hurricane Sandy Survivor Leaves Farewell Message in Evacuated Home {AOL Real Estate}
Nov 10th 2012 3:34PM I understand what you're trying to say, infer here. Taking responsibility for one's decisions, and the like and I understand this. IE...when I heard about the surfer 'idiot' who decided to catch a few waves and go out in the storm and surf and in the end, had to be saved. I was angry by his actions not just because he didn't listen to those who know better, but because in rescuing him, he put many other lives at risk. Father's, mother's, son's, daughter's, etc. He risked them all so he could get an adrenaline thrill. I was glad to hear that he was arrested. He deserves to spend some time in jail to think about his stupidity even if, in the end, hindsight in the end, means nothing. This man, though, we don't know the story. I know where this town is, and it is not on the ocean, but inland and a part on a bay that one has to cross to get to the Island that houses the infamous (thanks to 'Jersey Shore' dolt's) Seaside Heights and Island Beach State Park. Seaside is under water, or was, and its famous boardwalk and pier, destroyed, all the rides, gone. So, this guy decided to try and stick it out, thinking he wan't on the shore, but a bit inland and not expecting the gravity that finally occured. Whether he was told to evacuate or not, here, now, is beyond the point. He didn't risk anyone's life to remain in his home, except his own, that is. In the letter and interview, to me, he sounded humbled, afraid and so, so grateful. In the end, for me, this is what counts. The only thing that sort of sticks in my teeth is that he felt the need to man up and prove that he wasn't a baby about it all, to his dad. This angers me a bit. Why he would fee the need to prove this to dad, anyone, is not right, but I am sure he has his reasons. Whether I agree with them or not. All said and done, whether advised to get out or not, though, I am glad that Mike is alive and well and humbled by nature but grateful for humanity. This is, to me, what is important. Peace Out!
In-Flight Cellphone Calls To Be Allowed On Virgin Atlantic Flights {Gadling}
May 14th 2012 3:51PM If a person cannot stay off the phone for the 7 hours it takes to get from Heathrow or Gatwick to New York, then there is a major blip going on in one's life. I know that the A-330 offers so much more privacy that other upper class planes, (I flew to Rome on a redone Upper Class and the configuration was amazing. 1 seat..2 seats, facing opposite directions..then another seat. 4 in one row! I didn't believe it until I boarded. Was amazing, the privacy, et al. HOWEVER, this new found privacy did not prevent me from hearing other's conversations, snoring, etc. To have one or more people on a 7 hour flight chatting away, as they have nothing better to do, like read...or even catch a film, would be heinous. All the perks of the space would be dashed to smithereens due to 'yadda yadda yadda'! Also, again, if one cannot 'hang up' for 7 hours, then they had better take a long look at their lives for there is no reason to have to be connected 24/7. I won't even get an iPhone as there is nothing so important that either a call, itself, or time won't fix. Don't need to know every time I have been 'tagged' on FB or emailed. It can wait. If I were at the office, would be different, but while driving, having a latte, a cosmo, etc....is my time. We need to relearn how to be in one place at one time. Bad Idea. I get the financial end of it and they will take in lots of money, but for those of us not partaking...it will be one hellish flight.
Was Ryan Seacrest offensive to Oscar nominee Demian Bichir? {Celestrellas}
Feb 27th 2012 10:17PM I can't hep but concur that to take a man's life work and put it into a stereotype about Mexican's on twitter, where, given it was Seacrest, has probably an infinite number of connections, was just plain stupid and unthought out. Seacrest may produce "A, B and C" but he is still a yutz and acted like it last night in sinking to a level that most would not, Oscars or not. If he is going to interview actors and such as they arrive for the event, then he should know, especially regarding the nominees, their CV's/Resume's so mistakes like this, which he made worse by adding an inappropriate slight, would not happen. Is not the end of the world, just shows that ignorance abounds everywhere in this nation, not just in certain political circles. I hope he does apologize publicly as he did not just offend the man, but a whole continent and a half. Hopefully he will learn something from this.
'White Only' Pool Sign 'Decorative,' Landlord Claims {AOL Real Estate}
Dec 19th 2011 5:50PM But it is the home of the 'free and the brave', especially if you are white, Protestant, speak without an accent, are employed, have a degree and part of a community that raises their flags on all national holidays. If you do not have one or two of the above attributes the land is neither that "free" so the bravery, then, really does not play a major role in anything else. I don't know if I am explaining myself correctly, but just that there is a prerequisite to being a part of the 'free and brave' and many of us do not have that prerequisite, unfortunately.

'White Only' Pool Sign 'Decorative,' Landlord Claims {AOL Real Estate}
Dec 19th 2011 5:38PM Just open your eyes and look around when out and about. You will see 'stupid' everywhere you go, Right, left forward....it surrounds us. Not all of it is vindictive or intentionally stupid, but just is stupid. What this woman tried to pull, though, was intentionally being stupid and knowing that she would get a reaction, which might be what she was looking for, attention. However, stupid is all around us and if we who usually are not stupid, do not watch out, we all have the chance of being pulled into 'Stupidopolis' with the rest of them.

Dec 19th 2011 5:29PM As a white person, male, in America, and being in my 40's, I have yet to find that I have had to stick up for my 'white rights' in the US, or, in fact, in any other nation I have visited, from Canada to Morocco to Indonesia. I actually, never thought of there being a problem with the rights of whites in the US. Perhaps I do not get out enough!? I believe what this landlord did was so terribly insensitive, revisiting a time in this nation that was cruel, divisive, indeed inhuman and a time we should all be ashamed of. Remembering that in certain states, still, in the 60's, it was illegal for some people of color to eat, sit, share...any locales with white people and many blacks, especially, were continually intimidated from voting, or even registering to vote. Women and children were beaten and not protected by the police, being afraid as they were of their local Aryan groups, from Alabama to Maine. May have been all legal in the north, but sentiment often was racist, and remains to be, though it is more prominent is certain parts of this nation, than in others. I cannot imagine what this landlord was possibly thinking to do such a thing. Her excuse 'for historical reasons' does not cut it at all and that witnesses have stated that she was reticent about the young lady swimming in the pool due to her hair. Most black women I know go nowhere even near water as it damages their hair so for her to do this or think this way, is not believable. If she sincerely put the sign up for nostalgic reasons, she has a warped sense of nostalgia and memorabilia. I do not blame the family for filing suit. I will reiterate once again, that although, in this country, I have been dealt blows regarding other parts of my life, being white has never been one of them. I would be sorry for her if she had suffered for being a white woman in America but I do not believe this to be true. I believe her to be an insensitive, emotionally retarded person who has no clue between reality and fantasy and has no clue of our history and what makes things appropriate and inappropriate. I am glad her sign was stolen. I also feel for the neighbors being in the spot light this time of year for what an idiot did our of prejudice. May she read some of these comments and try to feel, if that is possible, what is must have been for the tenants in question, when they saw that sign given that 40 years ago, it would have been fully acceptable. What a dope! An unquestionable, nasty dope.
