Six Reasons I Broke Up With Your Travelblog {Gadling}

Aug 6th 2011 8:32AM Ouch! I had twins at the start of the year so I have been running quite a few guest posts from fellow travel bloggers (including one by Pam!) to keep my site ticking over. I thought that I was doing a service to my readers by introducing them to new writers and to my fellow bloggers by letting them reach new audiences and build in a few links. Sorry to be irksome. Oh wait, no I'm not!

Top tips for TBEX and other writers' conferences: What I've learned from 20 years of success stories at Book Passage {Gadling}

May 26th 2011 4:03AM This makes me sad that I'll be missing Book Passage this year! I'm so glad I took the opportunity to go in 2009 and 2010. Right now I'm focused on my three-month-old twins but hope to start writing again soon.

Ask Gadling: What to do when you have to fly coach {Gadling}

Oct 21st 2010 4:13PM Why are you guys getting on her case for talking about how to make the economy class experience more comfortable? As she says, "some of us have to fly coach all the time" - sounds like she's including herself in that!

By the way, alcohol is usually free in economy if you're flying internationally.

Successful travel blogger offers extensive course in making your own blog profitable {Gadling}

Feb 5th 2010 7:46PM It may or may not be a good course but this gushing post has the tone of an advertisement.

$75 isn't beer money either.

Ten tips to make your trip through the airport security checkpoint easier on everyone {Gadling}

Jan 26th 2010 1:08PM Another tip... don't assume it's the same procedure everywhere. The US is the only place I've been that routinely makes people take their shoes off. And some airports now have machines that mean you don't need to remove laptops from your case. Read the signs.

Auctioning a family heirloom for a cause: With this Ring Project {Gadling}

Jan 7th 2010 12:46PM The ring is beautiful. As worthy as the causes are, I don't know if I would sell in her position. Firstly, what is and isn't your personal "style" changes over your lifetime and bigger rings suit older hands. Secondly, it's an heirloom and there's something to be said for keeping it in trust for the next generation.

Heterosexual couple booked on a gay cruise sues cruise line {Gadling}

Oct 22nd 2009 2:42AM The 'content' of a gay cruise would not necessarily be different, just the people on it. It sounds like this couple just didn't feel comfortable being around gay people. That's quite different from not wanting to hear heavy metal music.

Being gay or straight is about who you are. Liking heavy metal music or not is merely about your interests. Not wanting to associate with gay people is homophobia. Not wanting to listen to heavy metal music is just a musical preference.

Maybe I'm wrong and the 'content' of the cruise was also different - maybe there were lots of drag shows and stand-up comedians telling suggestive gay-oriented jokes. But if it's just the fact that they were embarrassed to be on a cruise with gay people and were suddenly experiencing being a minority, then I think they should get over it.

Hypothetically I would be cranky if I were a straight, single woman going on the cruise hoping to meet available men (or vice versa). But this couple were already married so presumably they were just there for a holiday. Unless they were secretly hoping for a bit of straight swinging? ;-)

I also don't see why they get to sue the cruise line under the cover of anonymity. If they truly believe this isn't about homophobia, they should have no problem with putting their names to it.

Roadside California: World's Largest Artichoke {Gadling}

Aug 12th 2009 11:50AM Australia is full of these "big" roadside attractions - the Big Banana, the Big Pineapple, the Big Merino, the Big Prawn, even the Big Potato.
