Scary Moments As Door Jiggles on BA Flight {AOL Travel News}

Oct 5th 2010 7:07AM It is impossible for a cabin door to open in flight on any airliner as long as the cabin is pressurized. Pressurization usually starts right at take off rotation or on some aircraft right after engine start when the packs are selected on. They are plug type doors whch means that the pressurization will hold the door closed and being that they are several tons of pressure holding that door closed no one can open it.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Pokes Fun at Mel Gibson {PopEater}

Jul 22nd 2010 9:17AM "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." You all want to lay into someone who is just being a human being just because he is a celebrity but you are guilty of the same thing! How pitiful, what say we lay aside the judgement and just get on with life.

Airline fees: Please don't lie, don't be moronic {Gadling}

Jul 10th 2010 6:03AM Everybody hates the extra fees but nobody can offer a solution. Do you realize that the smallest jet the MD80 will burn 100 gallons of fuel just taxing to the end of the runway? That a starter motor for one of those engines is in th 6 figure range. That just damaging an engine is 1.5 million dollars? That does not include the 20 million dollar simulator to train crews that they have to buy and maintain or the large hangar and maintenance facilities that cost 100's of millions of dollars to build and maintain. Also let us not forget the deicing fluid at 100 dollars a gallon and it usually takes a few hundred gallons to deice one airplane. Yes, management could be a little more competent by listening to those who are on the line but running an airlline is one of the most heavily regulated and expensive things that there is. What I mentioned here is just the aviation side what about ticket counters, airport fees, maintaining computers keeping the TSA happy, the list just goes on. So unless you have a viable solution...

Down With Performance Reviews {AOL Jobs}

Apr 30th 2010 7:26AM Try being an airline pilot who get reviews (checkrides) every 6 months which involves an hour and a half oral exam and a four hour flight test. Who also has to pass medical exam every 6 months. Who is reviewed on the line every year and has to pee in a bottle on command in random drug tests or breath in a tube for random alcohol tests. Who is guilty and is not allowed to prove himself innocent. The minimum passing grade for all these is 100 per cent, "failure is not an option" it is a career destroyer. So buck up people a quit crying you don not have my sympathies, just my contempt.

Man Arrested for Making Death Threat Against Elton John {Spinner}

Mar 16th 2010 7:00AM So, you really think that your hatred is any better than his. You really think that by hating you are adding to the good in the world. Hatred just increases the evil.

Plane Answers: So you want to be a pilot? Here's how. {Gadling}

Jan 17th 2010 7:31AM I am retired now but spent 42 years and 20,000 ours flying airplanes. Flew everything from Cessna 150s to Boeing 767s. The part of the job I miss the most is the wondrous beauty! The view out the front windows is the best in the world and the things I have seen were at times breathtaking. God made a beautiful world! If you go into flying for just the pay or alleged prestige you will be disappointed. If you go in for the love of it and the personal challenges, you will be happy.

German airline to offer smoking, not non {Gadling}

Jul 18th 2009 3:28PM I don't think these people realize the aircraft maintenance problems that this would create. When the tar and nicotine gets coated on microswitches and servos it will cause numerous problems and could even create an emergency situation. That is the main reason the airlines went to nonsmoking.

Jan 20th 2009 7:15AM One of the funniest things I ever heard in a movie was two guys arguing. One an american the other british. The american guy getting real frustrated with the british yelled out, "Well we whooped the pants off you in the Revolutionary War!" The british replied, "Yeah that was over taxes wasn't it? How's that going anyway?"
