Which presidential candidate would you most want to travel with? {Gadling}

Feb 12th 2008 5:09PM Dove: I'd be interested knowing how you would isolate both candidates’ positions regarding our economy, the negative value of the American dollar in the international marketplace, education, healthcare, U.S. military presence overseas, and diplomacy. Homeowners need to know how long it will take to sell their property because of the recent mortgage lending crisis that now dictates potential buyers must have flawless credit to qualify for a low-interest loan. We also need to understand each candidate’s plan for the United States to have other sources for oil outside of the Middle East that will facilitate lower consumer prices for fuel. Preparations must be made now for future human survival as the planet’s eco-system continues to deteriorate. Finally, our industry needs to be re-invented; we manufacture and export few genuinely American products. Our continuous consumption of foreign products undermine and increase the price of our own. We need an manufacturing stimulus plan that Americans can invest in and become proud of. Once you are able to complete this, then perhaps you can identify the "BS" you are certain Mr. Obama is full of, because his ideas are gaining popularity within both the Senate and Congress. We should all be concerned with the “BS” that forces us to pay over three dollars for a gallon of fuel and nearly two dollars for a loaf of bread.

This country is in serious trouble and only a select number of Americans are financially able to survive the economic consequences that lay ahead of us. Solutions are not going to be easy and it will take time to see universally beneficial changes. Either candidate faces a terrifying responsibility, but neither of them subscribe to impossibility. Both call for change that begins with admitting that many mistakes have been made with no regard toward who will suffer the damage. Our status of being the best country in the world has cost us tremendously. Our pride and arrogance have taken a dangerous turn. We need leadership that can be confident, but humble; firm, but yielding; guarded, but benevolent. Our relations with Europe, Asia, and South American need to be strengthened to restore international support for the United States. To improve our world position, our governing structure needs to find internal accord and all branches must wilfully work with each other. I feel both candidates can be the model to initiate these changes.

Take time to read, watch, or listen to the news because if you have been following the campaign carefully, you will notice a close similarity between the Democratic candidates, and any notions the party will suffer a rift because of them have evaporated. Obama and Clinton find agreement in many issues and a random sampling of 193 items voted in the Senate reveal Obama and Clinton only differed with 2 items. The candidates are extremely dedicated to their responsibilities as Senators and are moving in a direction that calls for a reformation of government and a restoration of public trust. The only difference between the two candidates is that Obama has a better sense of the importance of Grass-roots campaigning in all areas and that popular opinion projections must be met verified with hands-on application. He has an excellent campaign manager who takes nothing for granted and is in constant communication with staffers and volunteers. Obama’s sweep this weekend (02/08 to 02/10) prompted Clinton to replace her campaign manager, so with all the knowledge you give credit to Hillary for having, she should have closed this past week-end with better numbers. I am not stating this as a negative against Mrs. Clinton; she and her team slipped and missed an opportunity. Nor is it a negative statement against you; you are mis-informed and have a truncated understanding of crucial information. I only criticize the lack of detail that could support your position; else wise, it is just an empty, and superficial comment. Again, a close study of this presidential race will show the Democratic Party can find satisfaction in either Obama or Clinton becoming the Commander In Chief. There was a time when much commentary circulated that said neither candidate could run a successful campaign; that the country was not “ready” for a woman or a black president. No such talk dominates the airwaves now and it is a testimony that the citizens of this country are not only ready for significant change, but are inspired that diversity is no longer a word to be feared and one day will be something that won’t need to be enforced through legislation. Perhaps you can bring that up when you book your flight with Mrs. Clinton.

Feb 12th 2008 3:36PM To Dove: It would only be fair for you to offer specifics related to what issues you think Senator Clinton has knowledge in; it would be equally fair for you to describe what "type of person" Senator Obama is that makes you "scared" to want to travel with him. I would personally like to travel with both President Bush and Dick Cheney so they can explain to me what could have been done differently over the past eight years; I'm certain the current administration has a number of regrets.

Man Killed By Plugged-In Cell Phone {Switched}

Jan 30th 2008 10:59AM Let us at least agree that any electronic device that we have physical contact with should be used with a degree of caution. There are too many news articles that high-light incidents related to cell phones, PDAs, and laptops. We are either injured through distractions, like young students killed in car wrecks because the driver's focus was on texting, or electronic failure, like the poor man who died from injuries sustained as a result of a cell phone battery explosion. Location, economic status, religion and race have nothing to do with what happened. Here in the US we still have plenty of homes and buildings that are not electrically up-to-date, so an incident like this can happen anywhere. I would expect at some point, cell manufacturers will incorporate a warning against using the product while it is being charged.
