NHL Season Preview: Vancouver Canucks {Fanhouse NHL Blog}
Sep 30th 2007 7:18AM Nonis has a bounty of riches on defence, with two good rookies in Edler and Bourdon on the outside looking in. Bourdon may need another year in the minors (though, on a team with a thinner defence, he'd be playing this year).
I suspect and hope that Nonis is biding his time. He knows the team can compete most nights, even with the shoddy goal scoring. So he'll hold off until he can assess the severity of the scoring drought, and move an asset from the D when he sees fit.

Text 100 opens SL branch {Second Life Insider}
Aug 9th 2006 8:59PM Had I known about the pie thing, I would've put it in for sure. I'm always leery about jumping into communities like that with a question, but there's no easy way around it.
I should clarify that it wasn't, in fact, the hype that may draw me back to Second Life. In fact, that's having the opposite affect. It's a number of conversations I've with individuals who are into SL.
Ugly Passport Photos {Gadling}
Jul 4th 2006 5:22PM Here in Canada, you're not even allowed to smile in passport photos. They should just knock you unconscious, put you on a slab and photograph you from above.
It's Canada Day, you Hoser! {Gadling}
Jul 1st 2006 2:01PM FYI, it's pronounced 'took', and it rhymes with 'kook'.

ABC should suspend Jim Gray until he apologizes {Blog Maverick}
Mar 7th 2005 9:29PM How about before you disparage a reporter, you act like a reporter yourself and check the facts? Have you looked at the tape? Once you've confirmed that Mr. Grey did, in fact, misrepresent your views, then you can trash talk him. Until then, you're reducing your creditibility to your readership.
When will the music industry do it right ? {Blog Maverick}
Nov 8th 2004 10:38PM Voluntary collective licensing is, to me, the way forward: http://www.eff.org/share/collective_lic_wp.php The EFF makes a strong case for it: "The concept is simple: the music industry forms a collecting society, which then offers file-sharing music fans the opportunity to "get legit" in exchange for a reasonable regular payment, say $5 per month. So long as they pay, the fans are free to keep doing what they are going to do anyway—share the music they love using whatever software they like on whatever computer platform they prefer—without fear of lawsuits. The money collected gets divided among rights-holders based on the popularity of their music."
It was bound to happen...and it did. {Blog Maverick}
Nov 6th 2004 1:29PM I'll probably blog about this on my own site, but here's a quick first impression. When I lived in Europe, I was extremely surprised to see the on-field officials giving interviews after English Premiership (that's soccer, incidentally) games. The media asked them about incidents in the game, and the officials seemed to answer (more or less) honestly about what they thought transpired. Why don't we make league officials answerable? In fact, I'd imagine that referees (et al) would feel empowered by being able to speak their mind in the media.
Team USA - The Answer {Blog Maverick}
Aug 18th 2004 11:29AM A number of very good points from my fellow Canadian. What he fails to clarify, I think, is that the Canadian skills deficit was being felt in the NHL as well. We could skate and hit with the best of them, but the top scorers were increasingly coming from Europe. They did some analysis, and found that development programs in Europe focussed more on skills than strategy, had a much higher practice-to-game ratio and encouraged creativity. I'm not a huge basketball fan, but I'm pretty sure that's not happening in the NBA yet. That is, American-born players are still dominating the game. As such, I guess the US national team didn't have as much warning as our Canadian hockey program did.
