Why you should ALWAYS use online checkin {Gadling}
Jan 11th 2008 2:51PM Don't believe everything you read! I am an agent for a major US carrier. We are NOT required to hold your seat until the last second, whether or not you checked in online. We hold seats for those who have checked in at the airport because we know that they are physically there. For those who have checked in online, we hold the seat as a courtesy until all other unused seats are gone. But keep in mind that in order to get the plane out on time, we must get passengers on board and seated wtih bags stowed, and still get the door shut and the jetway pulled. All of this takes time. So, even if you checked in online, we will give your seat away as many as 10 to 15 minutes before departure if you haven't boarded the aircraft.
