Mar 28th 2011 7:30PM Good grief! I posted here a few hours ago, and stopped by to assess the consenus. As I read a few pages, it struck me as terribly sad that so many respondants are biggoted, rascist, virtually illiterate hate mongers, who offer no support for their venomous screeds.
Listen to the people, who have been to Cancun. Ignore the conservative rantings of those with no credible basis for their juvenile comments.

Mar 28th 2011 2:58PM Mentally challenged comments like this one simply disgust me. Mexico is by far the best value for the US dollar if you are looking for a warm climate, friendly and appreciative people and excellent accommodations. It really saddens me that so many people in Mexico are made to suffer loss of income because of television hype and the dull witted people, who parrot unfounded concerns.
I have visited Mexico many times; Guerrero, Baja Norte, Sineloa, Quintana Roo, Yucatan and Nueva Leon. I was in Cancun last spring with my wife, daughter and granddaughter. There was absolutely no concern for our safety and security, and that was at the height of the news scares. As in any unfamiliar place, keeping your eyes open and being prudent in your actions will keep you safe and sound. Don't cheat yourself out of a great vacation by listening to the Chicken Littles and screeching newscasters.
Travel agents: The dinosaur you just might need {Gadling}
Mar 16th 2011 3:31PM It looks like most of the responders here are travel agents, and I'm not sure that I agree with the general consensus. Having read the article, I don't see any substantive advantage to going through an agent presented.
After resaerching and shopping around, I usually book with Expedia. Each time, I call them, talk to a personable rep, who invariable calls the property that I plan to visit, makes sure that it is understood what I want and expect, and the booking is made after confirmation of those two items. Seems pretty simple to me, and the only time I had a flight canceled, Expedia refunded my payment immediately and found an alternative flight within minutes.
My comments are in no way intended to slam travel agents. If going through an agent would make my travels more pleasant, I would not hesitate to do so. However, the only difference I can see is paying more to go through an agent. After all, they have to make a living too.
