SOS from VFW: Combat Vets in Trouble {Politics Daily}

Jun 3rd 2009 11:13AM We as a nation:
Lets look at the story of one solidier who had lost a brother in Iraq and the other in Afghanistan. He had just reenlisted and received a re-enlistment bonus. He was discharged because he was the sole remaining son - the military demanded the bonus back and his wife who was pregnant, was denied healthcare. Finally his Congressman intervened and he did not have to repay the bonus and his wife received health care from a military dispensary.
Or the story of the returning wounded veteran from Iraq who was informed by his VA doctor that he would never walk again due to his injury, yet he went to an outside health care provider who was able to rehabilitate the soldier and now he can walk again. Or the story that several states offer their taxpayers the option of donating their state tax refunds to help military families that are struggling by being able to donate their tax refunds. Less than 9% of the state refunds were donated by taxpayers to help these military families. What a sad state of affairs for our veterans.

SOS from VFW: Combat Vets in Trouble {Politics Daily}

Jun 3rd 2009 10:56AM A sad state of affairs:
When in a country as ours, holidays that are supposed to honor and praise the sacrifices of America's Sons, daughters, fathers, mothers who are serving in the military - are used to promote sales. Memorial Day, a day to honor the fallen serviceman - is used to hype sales - and Veterans Day is used for the same. How sad it is, that we as a people, so soon forget the sacrifices of others in defense of this country and its way of life. Sad, really sad.

Watch out Wal-Mart, Aldi is ready to storm the US {WalletPop}

Jan 29th 2009 10:37AM Aldi vs. Walmart:

Lets see - the quarter for the shopping cart is almost everywhere in Europe - thats why you do not see carts all over the parking lots or on sidewalks - the people bring the carts back to get their quarter back - saves the company in overhead costs. In Europe, people bring their own shopping bags - if you want a shopping bag - you have to pay for it - boxes however are free. Walmart tried to represent itself in Germany and lost. Walmart was trying to initate a rule forbidding workers having relationships - OFF the job. If you saw two co-workers together, OFF the job - it was your duty to report such to management. If you did not report your observation - you would be disciplined. German labor court said - Walmart, you cannot regulate or tell a person who they can see in their OFF time.
Aldi in Germnay is known for its cheap labor - well not hire full time workers if it can get away with it - thereby not having to pay health insurance costs. The products Aldi carries are not the creme de la creme items - but if you have a limited budget - people shop there. Aldi like Walmart are not friendly to labor unions.

Why you should ALWAYS use online checkin {Gadling}

Jan 11th 2008 4:54AM Online check in:

Sounds great - however, some international destinations, Germany for example, do not accept such (I have tried this with United Airlines various times and have always been rejected) - and I fly to Germany 4 to 5 times a year.

TSA-friendly wine bag {Gadling}

Jan 11th 2008 4:22AM Sorry TSA winebags:

You will not get this on any carry on luggage from Europe to the US. New European security regulations only allow small amounts of liquids past the security check point in a "Clear" bag. Recently I could not even take a bottle of whiskey on a connecting flight in Europe that was bought in the Duty Free shop in the US. Only duty free bought in European Duty free shops/airlines are allowed on connecting flight in Europe. May the traveler beware!!!!!
