Jimmy Carter Leaves Church Over Treatment of Women {Politics Daily}
Jul 20th 2009 4:57PM At every point in our lives, we must live according to our genuine truth. That means, we must embue our lives with those who support the best in our lives and the lives of all our people. Once again, President Jimmy Carter, probably the most noble and dynamic leader we have had in social issues in the last 40 years, has taken a specific stand and manifested that stand into action. God bless you, President Carter, I hope you find a tradition that more accurately reflects your belief system.
Sarah Palin to Step Down as Governor of Alaska {Politics Daily}
Jul 3rd 2009 7:00PM Hurray!.. for now.
Disney's First Black Princess...Has a Prince Who's Not Black {Blackvoices Main}
Mar 21st 2009 10:16AM First, Princess is lovely. Second, the firefly doesn't sound like a slave, he sounds like a caricature of a Cajun man, and quite honestly, his toothless face has that same quality. Third, while the Prince may not have traditionally Black features, ethnic men come in all shades and facial types. I suppose if one would like a stereotype of what a race is supposed to look like, one can wish for that, but all I see are two lovely people in a fairy tale.
WWD Asks: What Should Michelle Obama Wear? {Stylelist}
Dec 8th 2008 10:20AM Given her body type and coloring, the Michael Kors royal blue dress would look phenomenal on Madame Obama. I hope she chooses better than election night. She needs structure to balance her body, from top to bottom.
JCPenney: "We Don't Do African-American Hair" {Blackvoices Main}
Nov 26th 2008 12:50PM Salons that cater to a diverse segment of the population, such as JCPenny, should ensure they have staff that can handle all types of hair. That responsbility falls on this corporate giant. To think that this store, most likely in a large, well-traveled mall, cannot readily serve a woman of African-American heritage is ludicrous.
Good news if you hate the name of the street you live on {WalletPop}
Oct 14th 2008 1:19AM Dead Cat Alley that is shown in the photos of the strangest street names is actually in Woodland, California next to the historic Woodland Opera House! It's very dark at night and one can only imagine how it got its name. Hmmmmm.
These stores deserve to close {WalletPop}
Mar 7th 2008 10:41AM The last couple of times I went to Macy's in downtown Sacramento, CA, I have either been ignored or, in one case, actually insulted.
Having a portly build, I was looking for a waist size that they discovered they do not carry. Fair enough. They're not obligated to cover every size. I expressed my surprise, though, that a store the size of Macy's didn't accommodate heavier people, as well.
The waif-like, older sales woman said to me, laughing, "You should take a walk instead of having another sandwich."
It was my very first experience of being treated so poorly because of my weight. I'm nearly 50 years old and I've been heavy a long time, and never had I been treated so rudely by sales staff.
No wonder Macy's is having to close their doors.
Did Simon Disrespect Virginia Tech? {AOL Video Blog}
Apr 18th 2007 8:28PM The timing was too specific to be anything but Simon Cowell rolling his eyes at Richardson expressing his condolences. I believe Chris was genuinely expressing his sadness over these tragic events. It seemed as though Cowell did not want to take the time during the show for "everyone" to address the Virginia Tech tragedy. I do not believe, however, that Cowell is not sensitive to the events that happened. I suspect that he simply felt that American Idol should not be predominantly focused on that event. "Let's get down to business," is what I suspect he intended by the rolling of his eyes.
Brandon: Over and Out, Roger {Queer Sighted}
Mar 19th 2007 2:08AM We all know that Sanjaya is still there because of the 'tween and teen girls swooning over him. Lest we not forget, however, we also have a contingent of the screaming minority of young, gay boys just waiting to have some pillow talk with him over the phone late, late at night. "So, what'd you get for number 17 on Algebra?"
Hearst Castle Evening Tours {Gadling}
May 20th 2006 2:25PM Hearst Castle is beyond anything we imagined when we went on the tour. We were fortunate to go on two of the tours during our trip. It was well worth the money spent. The castle is phenomenal and the docents were so knowledgable that it added depth to the already spectacular environment. The art work alone is worth the trip. Add to that the ceilings, furnishings, tapestries, grounds, architecture and gold-leaf pool and you have an adventure that you will talk about for years and years to come.
