May 10th 2008 11:14PM As Shane says this is a common sight in Japan, but they are not waving at the camera - in Japan children are taught to raise their hands when they are crossing the road. My assumption about this is that it increases their visibility and shows that they want to cross the road not just hang around on the pavement. Sometimes older people do this getting out of elevators also getting off trains and buses.
