Galley Gossip: Hanging business class coats (it's just a flight attendant thing) {Gadling}
Apr 28th 2009 2:50AM - I used to be all about meal cooking management:
Oven 1:
Fish on the bottom racks, bread in the top racks (keeps fish from overcooking)
Oven 2:
Mixed nuts on the bottom, beef in the top racks
- Warming the silver service with hot water before filling with coffee/tea
- Premixing MaiTais on Hawaii flights and adding extra guava juice to kick things up a notch
- H20 bottles in the ice drawers to get it cold
- Leftover ice cream dished into plastic cups and then passed to the kids in Y
- Coffee cup with water and dry ice on the dessert cart...if I was feeling especially cheesey
- Removing linens from bags and folding them all correctly, so they were easy to pass out
- Putting a couple of Cognacs in hot water prior to the dessert service, so that people had the option of drinking it warm or cold
- 2nds and 3rds of water/OJ/tea after the bev service. (Why should it just be coffee drinkers who get the privelege of getting unsolicited seconds?)

Galley Gossip: A question about why flight attendants are paid twice as much as teachers {Gadling}
Apr 12th 2009 4:48AM I think it's funny that all of these people are bashing flight attendants...but here they are reading a flight attendant's blog. A little jealousy, perhaps?
In any case, if we're going to start comparing teacher and flight attendant salaries let do some other, more important comparisons:
Police Officer / Pro Athlete
Firefighter / Actress
Soldier / Pop Singer
If we're going to be outraged by any pay disparities let look at the folks who put their lives on the line daily and compare them against people who work a few hours a day, doing crap...yet get paid hundreds of times more. Those are much better to focus on than worrying about the F/As who make 40K and the teachers who make 39K.
One other thought; it's a bit ironic that some of these people complain about F/As and how surly we all are...yet they also suggest that we should get minimum wage. Um, hi, do you think that paying someone the same that a McDonald's worker get is going to make things better?!?!?!
Cockpit Chronicles: An eye-opening walkaround inspection {Gadling}
Feb 20th 2009 9:16PM Glad to see a Cockpit Chronicles...thanks for all of the great posts!
Asian Group Not Mad at One of These People {TMZ}
Feb 3rd 2009 11:07AM So there is a guy holding a wine glass in the pic and it doesn't seem unreasonable to think that there are others in the pic who were drinking too...but I'm absolutely SURE that Miley, the young, virginal, pure 16 year old would NEVER be drinking herself. I mean, she's dating a guy in his 20s, taking semi-nude photos for Vanity Fair and driving a car worth more than most of us make in 2 or 3 years....so why would we EVER think there is the possibiblty that she feels "mature enough" to drink? Whats more is...where are her parents? My folks would never have allowed me to be in a hotel room, with other young people and alcohol.

Galley Gossip: A question about why I'm based in New York when I live in California {Gadling}
Jan 12th 2009 8:33PM Wow...I inspired an entire post!
For some reason I didn't think your airline's LAX domestic base was all that senior, hence my question. However, I do indeed understand the whole west-coast shuttle thing. I was at UAL until recently and in my last year of flying I only had 11 overnites, because I was primarily stuck doing exactly what you mentioned....SFO-PDX-LAX-SFO or similar. (Did I mention the 6AM check-in or the 2.5+ hour sits between each leg?)
Anyway, thanks for the insight!

Galley Gossip: HAPPY NEW YEAR! {Gadling}
Jan 1st 2009 3:06PM Happy New Year!
Reading your comments about being on reserve in NYC made me wonder; why don't you fly out of LAX? I know quite a few people at UA commute west coast to IAD, but thats primarily because you can't get the great int'l flying anywhere else in the system and there seniority goes a lot further.

Galley Gossip: Flight Attendant Pet Peeve #4 - Turn around, go that way! {Gadling}
Sep 4th 2008 9:26PM Looking at the picture, I swear I thought you were going to say you had the same pet peeve as me; which is when people put their rollaboard in lengthwise instead of wheels first. At my old airline (I recently stopped flying after 14 years) part of our standard boarding announcement is "This aircraft is equipped with extended overhead bins...to maximize the available shared overhead space please place your rollaboards in wheels first" and, inevitably, as you finish saying that you watch someone throw their bag in sideways taking up WAY too much room.
Brit Gets Hauled Away -- 13 {TMZ}
Jan 4th 2008 1:54PM Its such a Catch-22...I really think that she needs some space and that the Paps should leave her alone, yet here I am on TMZ.com looking at the pics along with everyone else!
Please TMZ...focus on more on Paris or Nicole and leave Britney alone since she is so clearly sick and in need of privacy.
