Mar 18th 2010 5:44PM I tip a minimum 20% of the amount which includes taxes if I have no complaints about the service. I never hold the server accountable for the quality of the meal. At places where my wife and I eat regularly and we have established a "relationship" we'll tip our favorite server 40-50%; major holidays like Christmas 75-100%.
We appreciate good service and realize either because others can't afford or, frankly, are too cheap the servers, who as is reported aren't paid much, often put in a lot of hours for little payoff....and if that happens and they still maintain the attitude their empolyers require...they deserve what we can afford to tip.
