Judge bans predator from cruise, ruling raises questions {Gadling}

Dec 19th 2010 1:04PM I agree with this. Perhaps another analogue, considering Jack's comment, would be a long-distance flight? No option to leave, but airlines don't check for convicted sexual offenders either, and there are opportunities for predation here as well (although fewer than on a cruise ship).

Behind the Olympics: Sports you'll regret you missed {Gadling}

Aug 13th 2008 3:58PM I've actually seen all of these sports except table tennis on NBC, although not in primetime. In fact, they just finished airing some water polo about an hour ago, and I watched rowing and boxing on NBC on Saturday morning.

Jul 10th 2008 1:13PM Convention food usually is a little on the questionable side.

However, as a Colorado native, I protest your assessment of the overall food scene in Colorado. Perhaps your girlfriends just failed to do any sort of research on where to find tasty grub in Fort Collins. There's a lot of good food there, from my experiences the last time I visited. The fault may not have been with the town or even, as you suggested the entire state, but with the individual instead.

Jul 8th 2008 1:30PM My sense of cardinal directions is pretty good, so with that and even a sketchy, questionable map, I'm usually okay. In order to navigate a place without a map, I try to find a large landmark of some sort and get my bearings from that, and then just explore explore explore, preferably on foot, or bike, until I can find a large number of places easily. For example, when I moved to Lawrence, KS, I used I-70 as my east-west landmark, and also the northern boundary of my explorations until I was more comfortable.

Jun 13th 2008 12:58PM How is the water for these installations being supplied? Is it being pumped from the bodies of water near the installations?

Basically -- environmental impact anyone?

Should airlines charge you by your weight? {Gadling}

Jun 5th 2008 12:30PM BRIANM: I definitely see where you're coming from. My husband is of a very similar build. On a personal level, I would get grumpy, too, having to pay twice as much for his ticket as for mine, since he ways twice as much as me.

ROB: I think your calculation is probably the best idea offered thus far for charging by weight. It is nondiscriminatory, because it applies the same rate to all people, regardless of bmi, or whether a person is "obese" or not.

Perhaps a "total weight" formulaic -- a base charge per ticket that incorporates x number of total pounds per person, including luggage. Then a per pound charge above that for every pound you individually add to the flight. So, for example, a 150 lb person with 70 pounds of luggage would be charged the same amount as a 200 lb person with 20 lbs of luggage

This still would seem to perhaps affect unfairly those who weigh more because of genetics by penalizing them in terms of luggage quantity.
