Engadget HD's recession antidote: win a Dish Network DTVPal DVR {Engadget HD}

Jul 22nd 2009 4:39PM This guy right here! I could really use this thing after being laid off because of how expensive cable is.

Ask Engadget HD: What's the best plasma to pick up in 2009? {Engadget HD}

Jul 22nd 2009 4:35PM The TCP46G10 is a great deal for the money. I picked one up a few months ago for about $1300 and the difference between my older TH-42PHD8UK is nuts. Sports, games (Wii and Xbox 360) all look fantastic on it. The THX rating is irrelevant unless you have a darker room, after calibration the TV looks as close to my uncle's Kuro as any TV I have ever seen.

Do the right thing, get this or the V10, they are awesome.

Comcast adding nine HD channels in New Jersey {Engadget HD}

Mar 3rd 2008 6:07PM We in Hudson County, despite having the highest population density in all of NJ, are not going to get the new channels. There are no plans to add any new HD channels to Hudson County for the foreseeable future. This is absolute bullsh*t. I am so glad I moved into a brand new condo on the waterfront in Jersey City to get horrible cable service.

Big in Japan: Why Japan leads the world in suicide {Gadling}

Dec 4th 2007 11:58AM I didn't read all of the comments; but my gf, while I was living in Japan, told me that JR East started charging the families of the deceased for the cost of cleaning the body off the tracks. Or, as she so elloquently put it "They charge the families for the cost of scooping the jerk's caracass off the tracks and inconveniencing the entire city." There is a serious problem there with suicides on the Chuo-sen...at least that's where I noticed most of them.

Big in Japan: Eating zero calorie jelly keeps Japanese women skinny {Gadling}

Dec 4th 2007 11:45AM I lived in Tokyo for two years back in '03 & '04. This stuff is in all the convenience stores (konbini), supermarkets (supa-) and everywhere in between. The ones I tried were all ok, they were calorie free, but they are all fortified with vitamins and minerals. While you are not actually eating a meal, you are gaining some nutrional value from it. This is no different (and healthier) than the nutrisystem and Slim Fast shakes that people here use to suppress appetites and not eat a meal or two a day.

They also have things called genki drinks in litte brown bottles (best thing ever) that actually have liquid nicotine in them. Genki meaning a state of super well being, these drinks are amazing. I used to have massive hangovers cured by a bottle of chilled green tea (sugar-free) and a Genki Drink. Within a few minutes, life was good again. Wish they could sell them here in the states, the liquid nicotine prohibits that from ever happening though.
