Lead Poisoning in Old Homes: DIYers Beware {AOL Real Estate}
Jan 9th 2012 8:57PM Right on, that those of us over 60 and maybe younger than that survived with all the lead, asbesto, and whatever else the health crazies are constantly panicking about!! It's a big money making thing for those who charge a fortune to get rid of those things. It's all NUTS!
The Minor Threat: Age-Restricted Communities Evicting Children {AOL Real Estate}
Jan 8th 2012 1:59PM I think it's a shame that we are so down on children in society today. We are elderly, have many children in our neighborhood, and they don't cause problems for us. Everyone has a big yard, which certainly helps, but unless I was widowed, I would have no interest in moving into an age restricted housing and, even then, I would have 2nd thoughts about it. Why is it, for years and years all generations lived together in ONE house and now we can't stand to have children even in our neighborhoods??? I think it's a shame. We have three young grandchildren and welcome them to our house often and we are hoping for more grandchildren!! By the way, I was an elementary teacher and children can make you feel young and bring some joy into your life, keeping you from becoming an old grouch, which too many of us elderly are!!
HOA Forces Family to Remove Disabled Child's 'Therapy Home' {AOL Real Estate}
Dec 16th 2011 6:25PM We have a HOA in our subdivision, but it has little power. The main reason is was formed was for socialized and if something horrible was going to be built or done nearby, would be able to fight it as a group rather than individuals. Our subdivision started back on the late 60's and does have some covenants, but they aren't really enforced unless something someone builds is really an eyesore. We don't need permits to do remodeling or landscaping, putting things in our yard, thank goodness. I could never put up with fuss budgets that want everything perfect.
Family Wrongly Booted From Home Returns To Wreckage {AOL Real Estate}
Dec 4th 2011 9:54PM As screwed up as the banks are, no one should leave their home until someone comes and drags them out. And, then I'd still fight it! Banks were SO stupid to kick people out and then the house goes into disrepair to the point it's not worth much at all - dumb, dumb, dumb!! If you think you will be kick out stay in it, don't make any payments and save the money instead.
Video: Kayaker has rare encounter with a blue whale {Gadling}
Oct 19th 2011 4:45PM What a wonderful video!! And, it's one of the only ones I've seen that really has the perspective to show how HUGE those animals are. It's on my bucket list to see a huge whale like that in the ocean and this has motivated me even more to do that. Whales are such magnificent animals that must be preserved at all costs. We can't go to zoos to see them, so the more in the ocean for people to see the better!!! Yes, we can see killer whales at aquariums and places like Sea World, but they can't be compared with the other gigantic whales in the sea.
5 Staging Tricks for a Quick Sale {AOL Real Estate}
Oct 10th 2011 12:53PM It's a pathetic state of affairs that people are so shallow and lacking in vision of what a home can look like when they're living there that home sellers need to make their house look like it's ready for a photo shoot for Martha Stewart Living!! And, really, people are looking at those decor tricks instead of how many bedrms. the house has, etc.?? How many people today can afford to get rid of all of their furniture and put more "stylish" furniture - even renting furniture is expensive. When I think of the fixer uppers we've bought and didn't pay attention to the so-called decorating at all - did the size and floorplan fit our needs - THAT was the most important!! Homebuyers and realtors are crazy today!!
Census: American Dream of Home Ownership May Be Gone for Good {AOL Real Estate}
Oct 7th 2011 10:05AM I think having a home is still in the cards for many people, it just won't be the perfect palace they invision - those visions from watching too much HGTV, etc. Generations previous were happy to have a house under 1000 sq. ft. and thought nothing of fixing it up to their liking. And, it didn't HAVE to have granite countertops and stainless steel appliances!? I grew up in a tiny house and it was a wonderful HOME! Maybe the young people of the age that would be buying homes will come back down to earth and not demand such perfection, then maybe they will be able to afford a home.
Five Hot New Arrivals from Nine West {Shopping Articles Blog}
Oct 2nd 2011 9:47AM Who wears these shoes?? I sure don't see them around my town of 80,000 people. I suppose the young gals wear them clubbing, but otherwise, they are completely impractical from most people's daily lives. And, what kind of shoes do you see loading the sale racks - these rediculous super high heels! I think the women who buy them wear them seldom, if at all, and they just take up room in their chosets.
Confederate Flag Gets South Carolina Neighbors Up in Arms {AOL Real Estate}
Sep 27th 2011 3:56PM We live in NC and had a neighbor who flew the confederate flag. I HATED it and evidently the guy's wife did, too, because he died and almost immediately she removed it and put up the U.S. flag. Maybe she buried it with him! He was a drunk and threatened neighbor kids with a gun, so good riddens to him and his flag!!
