That Is Your Pet!?! {AOL Hot Searches}

Jan 14th 2009 1:45PM "Since she is domestic, she's had her glands removed"

What? No, she didn't have her glands removed - YOU had them removed because it was inconvenient to YOU for her to be her natural self. NEWS FLASH: Skunks are not domestic! They are wild animals and should be left alone.

Reading your post, clearly you are proud to be among the many who think it's acceptable to remove animals from their natural habitat and force them to live with humans, just so you can brag about what you "have".

This is plain wrong. Leave wild animals in the wild. Don't turn them into your toys.

That Is Your Pet!?! {AOL Hot Searches}

Jan 14th 2009 1:40PM Whoops said,"I do not encourage the average person to get any kind of wild or exotic animal for a pet ..."

Good point! Too many people get an exotic for a pet because it's the current trend, or it's "cool" or attracts notice. Those are very bad reasons to take on a pet of any kind.

DO YOUR RESEARCH. Think about the creature's needs, not just your own. Don't get a "pet" because you think it will up your cool factor. I was reading about "lap leopards" just a minute ago - how stupid is that, to import an animal from India just so you have bragging rights?

Americans are so used to buying whatever we want because we want to have bragging rights - and we don't care what or who we bulldoze over to achieve "status". Exotic pets is just one more example of our overrated value of ourselves in this world.

Jan 14th 2009 1:34PM I have a llama and alpaca. They aren't particularly friendly - they don't enjoy closeness to humans like a dog does. But they are lovely animals, and they do have personalities. And their wool is great for spinning and weaving or knitting, makes really warm and soft hats, socks etc. They are good guard animals too - in the country we have coyotes that like to eat smaller livestock, and llamas or alpacas are well known for being good defences against coyotes. Plus they don't eat a lot of specialized food - simple grass hay is great for them.

New state laws that affect travelers in 2009 {Gadling}

Jan 6th 2009 2:22PM "If I even have one drink I am paranoid about driving a car. I stay at home."

Well, you're one of the smarter ones :-) It's amazing how many people think it's OK to have a couple drinks at dinner in a restaurant then hop in the car and drive home, jeopardizing everyone around them with their buzz.

After I grew up, I realized that I have NO RIGHT to affect others with my drinking habits or smoking habits. I can pickle my liver and clog my lungs, and that's my choice - but I should do those things where it doesn't affect the people around me. Do you really want to be responsible for the death of a stranger, by the bad choice of driving after you've had a few drinks?

I had a roommate a few years ago who was permanently brain damaged after a head-on collision with someone who'd been drinking some. She was only 25 when it happened; she was in college, had a lively social life and was enjoying a good life with prospects of a rosy future. Then she got hit by a drunk driver, spent a month in a coma, and has spent the rest of her life barely being able to live away from her parents. Is having a few drinks so important to anyone that you are willing to be the cause of such a tragedy?

Actually, I quit smoking 15 years ago after watching both my parents die slowly and painfully from smoking-related cancers. And I quit drinking after my husband died 8 years ago of smoking- and alcohol-related cancer.

Even though both activities are legal, they are just bad for your body. And your lingering, painful death is bad for the people who love you. And causing grief and hardship to another human being, when you could have easily avoided it, is just wrong. That should be reason enough to quit ...

New state laws that affect travelers in 2009 {Gadling}

Jan 6th 2009 2:09PM "Why aren't these laws put to a public vote?"

Because we are stupid enough to let government take over our thinking for us. We are, year by year, allowing our government to erode every bit of "freedom" we once enjoyed, by letting our "representatives" make our decisions for us. This is the "dumbing down" of America that has gone on for at least the last 30 years.

How do you cook a frog? If you put it in a pot of boiling water, it would immediately jump out. But if you put it in a pot of tepid water then slowly raise the heat, it would stay in because it wouldn't notice the increased heat until too late. That's what we are letting our government do - cook us like frogs.

Step by quiet step, they are eroding every bit of liberty we once had, and all we do is complain amongst ourselves instead of fixing the problem. Every year more stupid laws are passed just to keep the legislators gainfully employed, and we keep letting them do it.

We need less government intervention, not more.

New state laws that affect travelers in 2009 {Gadling}

Jan 6th 2009 1:59PM More laws to "prevent" drunk driving? What do you think that would accomplish, besides put even more useless laws on the books? There are lots of laws already in place, and according to a recent news report in Colorado, drunk driving has not abated as a result.

People KNOW it's illegal to drink and drive. More laws won't make them stop.

You can't legislate common sense.

The Cult of Barack Obama's Birth Certificate {Politics Daily}

Dec 5th 2008 1:55PM "If Obamas legit, let's move on" ...

IF?? For God's sake, let it go!

The main reason anybody continues this line of thinking is because of fear. You're afraid of having someone other than an old white guy being in charge, since that's pretty much all we've ever had for a president.

Thank God there was a different choice this time and some of the people had the guts to vote for him. Hey, he can't do any worse than Bush, Bush Jr, Clinton, Reagan, Nixon etc, all of whom pretty much sold us out. And he could do a hell of a lot better job than they did.

Let's stop dividing ourselves and unite to make this world a better place than it's been for the last 30 or so years. Let's support our president.

Burger King's Whopper Virgins campaign -- some video's out now, you can judge for yourself {WalletPop}

Dec 1st 2008 7:18PM I'm offended NOT because of the use of the word "virgin", but because Americans think they are superior to all peoples. Americans can't imagine someone unused to the garbage we eat might PUKE when they eat crap like a BK hamburger. They just assume it's going to be loved by the "little people" they've trundled off to find. I hope they really do puke when they eat this trash.

Target ordered to pay woman $3.1 million {WalletPop}

Oct 25th 2008 6:41PM "I get all of my name brand household soaps, cleaners & etc. etc. from Walmart, & I save big bucks, are they made in China also?"

Most likely, yes. Do some research, you'll find out LOTS of what we think is made here, is made elsewhere. Or components of it are made elsewhere.

For example - the "tainted milk scandal" recently? Bet you didn't think any milk from Chinese cows could possibly be in any food products in the USA. But think again - Nestle buys milk products from Chinese distributors, so it is highly likely US Nestle products have melamine in it. I threw out my Ovaltine because it's a Nestle product using dried milk, which came from China.

Also, "Mr. Brown" coffee products and "White Rabbit Candy" have been found to contain melamine, and some products have appeared in California and Connecticut. This was reported in September 2008 by MSNBC.

We don't know where the components of most products are coming from. Much comes from the cheapest source available, which is often China, who has less stringent rules about manufacturing food items ...

Target ordered to pay woman $3.1 million {WalletPop}

Oct 25th 2008 6:23PM "If you want to buy all Chinese-imports, then go to Walmart. "
You don't think the crap at Target is made in Taiwan too? Or Penney's - look at the labels in their "American Living" line. Everything is made in China.

A designer's name is meaningless anyway. It is not an assurance of quality. Those companies also buy sweatshop labor to make their stuff cheaply so they can make a larger profit off of people who think a recognizable name on their clothing label is important (another stupid concept.)

America does not manufacture anything of consequence anymore - we sent our manufacturing jobs to China and Bangladesh.
