Why I returned my iPad {WalletPop}
Apr 9th 2010 4:44PM My desktop from 2004 still works great (with a mem upgrade) and my Laptop from 2008 works fine too. I have a functional flip phone, and a nice little MP3 player I use when I run. I made a foray into mobile computing with an IPAQ handheld computer/PDA back in 2006, but I found it cumbersome and it was still easier to access info on my desktop at work. Why does anyone NEED an IPad? I have better things I can do with $ 500 dollars.
The Gender Pay Gap--New Opportunities for Women {AOL Jobs}
Apr 1st 2010 7:54PM Men are more reliable employees over a work-life span and this shows in pay advantages. Men don't leave their jobs for months to years to have and raise children, attend to child/family issues, etc. as do women. Men therefore amass more seniority in a given job, which equals more compensation. Employers also see men as more reliable over time than women for these same reasons. The pay difference isn't sexist, just a reflection of male and female role-responsibility patterns.
If I work 40 hours a week and a woman works 38 because she took off for he childs doctor's appointment, etc. then she makes less money than me. If I work for an employer for 12 years, and during the same perios my female colleage takes off 1-2 years to start her family, then I make more money than she does. It's a simple concept. If women for-go the family care-taker role, then they would work and make the same as a man over a work-life span.
Military Brass Upbraided on Pentagon's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' {Politics Daily}
Mar 30th 2010 3:41PM Interesting. Who married Adam and Eve? Where did the Easter bunny come from? Why is Christmas celebrated on December 25th? What does Xmas mean?
If Adam and Eve were the first people, where did all those other folks come from? Explain dinosaurs. What the difference between "God," "Allah," "Yahweh," and "Budda."

Mar 30th 2010 3:35PM Actually George W. Bush would have to have that honor Steve.
Military Brass Upbraided on Pentagon's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' {Politics Daily}
Mar 30th 2010 3:33PM Homosexuals already serve in the military. I feel that anyone who wants to step up and serve their country should be permitted to do so. As for affecting "warfighting" capability, it might be a good idea to look at how permitting gays to serve has affected other countries...Britain for example. Why are the "leaders" and then non-gay personnel so worried as to how this will affect our capability. Are our trops (homo- or hetero-) not sufficiently trained or disciplined. What can't they take clues from the civilian sector, healthcare, airline, police, fire, EMS...gays in these disciples not only perform as good as anyone else, but seem to be well-repected members of the team. Those that feel our military "can't handle the truth" are really selling our military short.
Obama Signs Into Law Health Care Fixes, Student Loan Overhaul {Politics Daily}
Mar 30th 2010 3:23PM The losing the freedoms thing is always a republican outcry that to incite the ignorant to climb on board any number of bandwagons. You are free to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Today, the liberty of corporations (supported by conservative republicans) continually infringe on that of citizens for thier own gain. There is a oligarchy of the wealthy that control the conservatives in the US. Abuses by an oligarchy or aristocracy have been the key factors in the rise of socialism and communism. By returning to the task of working FOR the people, the government helps stem the tide of such sentiments among the citizens.
In 2006, Bush had a comission looking to privatize social security. Can you imagine what would have happened if that had been pushed through before the collapse.
Obama Signs Into Law Health Care Fixes, Student Loan Overhaul {Politics Daily}
Mar 30th 2010 3:11PM You know, all those "socialists" in Britian and Canada don't seem to bad off. Words like this seem to get thrown about by those that really don't know any better. The US is a Republic with representative democracy. In the UK, you have a democratic parlimentary government. In deference to some statements made here, the majority of american's approve of the health care law. The republicans have work long and hard for corporations and other organized special interets groups for the detriment of the average US citizen. The vast majority of your republican representatives are millionairres and have little in common with the people whose backs they walk on while they tell them what they want to hear. Blue collar people that support conservatives are like abused wives that can stand to leave the abuser. When the financial industry ran us to the brink of financial collapse, what did Bush do...he gave them hundreds of billions more with no strings attached. At lease the democrats are working to better the situation of the average american, whether they can see it or not.
What I would like to see next is a a federal direct to consumer lending institution. Why should banks get to borrow from the Fed at 0.5% interest and then charge you 12-50 times that amount to borrow it from them? This is institutionalized robbery. The student loan overhaul attached to the health law fixes this abuse were it applies to those loans. Wouldn't it be nice if you could do the same with say your car loan, home loan, etc.
Happy to see a little real change that benefits more citizens this time and not just corporate america.
House Passes Health Care Overhaul in Historic Win for Democrats {Politics Daily}
Mar 22nd 2010 12:44PM One, those with private insurnace now can't be dropped when they get a major health problem among other protections. Otherwise they won't notice any real changes.
Somebody said that health care reform would result in...
1. Third world debt status - Our debt already exceeds that of the third world, but we have a GDP to support it. Don't forget the federal debt more than tripled under GW Bush. Projections have the healthcare bill reducing the federal deficit.
2. Dollar moribund in relationship to world currency rates - No basis for this prediction.
3. Permanently unemployed above 8% - No basis for this projection, but at least these people will have access to health care.
4. Major corporations with overseas manufacturing sites relocate jobs there and leave American workers behind - This has happened to the US for decades under the republicans, who supported the practice which enhances US corporate profts at the expense of workers.
5. Health care declines in quality - It will probably improve. Besides we are already #39 in the world in quality of health care.
6. The Democrats corrupt rule of law [with bribes and fixes and lobby money and thereby create chaos in our system of governamce - Like the republicans didn't use the exact same tactics in 2000-2008
Finally, the government appears to be working for people again and not the corporations.
Palin Holds Door Open to Presidential Run, Slams Obama {Politics Daily}
Feb 7th 2010 4:41PM Great, another idiot for president that could be worse that George W. Bush. Say what you like about Barak Obama, but at least he has ideas and wants to improve the life of average americans...protecting from abuse by banks and business, making sure everyone has healthcare, basic needs. I don't care if millionairres get taxed more. But Bush let business drive our economy into the ground and them handed them more cash with no strings attached. I'd rather had the federal government engage in deficit spending to give people health care, that just to give rich people more money. I say give the administration a fair chance and see what they can do. One thing is certain, they can't do worse that Bush did.
