Beta Beat: Google Chrome beta for Mac available {TUAW.com}

Dec 19th 2009 9:50PM Hmm...I don't know about Chrome really being faster than Safari. Maybe once the page actually starts loading, but every time I open Chrome it takes about a full minute to resolve a non-existent proxy, the settings for which are either disabled or not included in the Prefs menu. Super lame. I'll stick with Safari.

Unsung Snow Leopard feature: multiple-language spell checker {TUAW.com}

Sep 4th 2009 1:00PM Hmm. Pages '09 already had this feature. You just select which language you're typing in in the Text pane of the Document Inspector. Voila. Red squigglies go away.

Detecting a Great Coffee Shop with the CoffeeMeister {Slashfood}

Jul 10th 2009 12:24AM I think one overlooked tip is this: After ordering, watch to see if the barista begins by pulling your shot(s) or by steaming the milk. A good barista will always start with the milk, as brewed espresso loses flavor after 30 seconds of sitting around. I always do the milk first, it takes the longest anyways, then as the milk is almost done, I begin the shots. This ensures you get the freshest tasting drink possible.

Great tips otherwise, I just think you forgot a very important one.

iTunes 8.1.1 showing in Software Update {TUAW.com}

Apr 7th 2009 6:22PM Hey, does anyone know if they can sync their iPod Touch with iTunes now without it freezing and crashing every time? I had to go back to 8.0.2 because of that.

REPORT: GM considering Chapter 11 filing that would create new company; UAW walks away from negotiating table {Autoblog}

Feb 15th 2009 5:08PM I don't see why people are so afraid to be taxed for something we will all reap the benefits of? Isn't this what taxes do now? Police, Fire? Those are things we all enjoy and we all reap the benefits of as taxpayers. Why should health care be any different? To know if you are sick, you go to a doctor and you get care. In the end, as more and more are signed up, it lowers the cost for everyone, which may actually just free up more disposable income in people's paychecks to help the economy with.

German Cuisine: Using Simple Ingredients to Create Complex Tastes {Slashfood}

Feb 7th 2009 2:27PM Another good tip with the sauerkraut is to put a little white wine in the brine. Also, to serve, Germans typically will drain and rinse the kraut, then cook it on low to medium heat with a little bacon or some butter and maybe a little apple. I find when I make sauerkraut like that, people who don't like sauerkraut out of the can or jar magically devour all the sauerkraut.

Rotkohl is also really easy to make. You just braise shredded red cabbage in some apple juice, apples, a couple whole cloves, a dash of sugar and either bacon or butter. simmer it all on low until totally tender. Delicious served on smoked pork chops.

That's Fit In The Field - Yakima Cargo Box {That's Fit}

Jan 25th 2009 12:02AM Yes, an extra 18 cubic feet of space, but putting things like this can pretty seriously drop your gas mileage, meaning you pay for it whenever you use it in increased fuel costs. Helpful, sure, but maybe not deserving of your 5 star rating, especially when gas hits $4 a gallon again, which it will.

Europe struggles to stub out smoking {Gadling}

Jan 3rd 2009 8:16PM Pope Benedict XVI is German, not Italian. :) Also, smoking laws in Germany are left up to the Bundesländer, or federal states to decide for themselves. Personally, after living there for a time, I find the occasional second hand smoke comforting and reminiscent of the memories I made there.

That said, I'm a non-smoker.

Ford Fusion Hybrid rated 41 city/36 highway {Autoblog}

Dec 23rd 2008 1:52PM Best way to reduce congestion on the highways is to add to the gas tax and use it to develop a commuter railroad network. By making it a little more cost-prohibitive to drive and simultaneously offering an attractive, affordable alternative, you also allow freight to be moved across those lines, getting large trucks off the road. The result, you can drive faster and safer on the interstate while prices of consumer goods is lowered and our dependence on foreign oil is lifted. Plus, we get a stellar railway system. Win win win.

Homemade Cranberry Sauce That's Similar to Canned {Slashfood}

Nov 29th 2008 3:13PM Sounds tasty. I tried something new with cranberries this year, I took a bag of fresh cranberries and soaked them in red port wine in the fridge overnight with the zest of one orange. The next day, I simmered the whole mixture down to sauce-like consistency, thinning it a bit with some orange juice. Since many in my family are diabetic, I sweetened it with Splenda to cut the tartness, but any form of sweetener would have sufficed, even honey. The sauce turned out great, and served as an interesting and delicious topping for our cheesecake too, injecting some zesty fruity tartness into the creamy, cheesy cheesecake.
