'Genderless' Baby Raises a Storm of Controversy {ParentDish}

May 26th 2011 7:44PM When this article mentions studies that show what people do, it does not list this entire range of what people do, but only general trends. Example: "Other studies have shown that when people observe a crying baby and are told it is a girl, the child is labeled 'sad.' When told the baby is a boy, however, observers find the baby 'angry.'" This does not mean that ALL people had that response. This does not list all the variety of responses given by the observers in interpreting the cries. Hence, we cannot assume Storm's parents will behave with some gender specific response. Who writes these stories which attempt to lead readers to conclusions that cannot be reached based on the cited studies?
Anyway, I'm sure Storm has a wonderful loving family, capable of making the right decisions for their own family at the right times. Better than those who masquerade their repression of women under the guise of "Family Values".

Elena Kagan's Fashion Sense: Robin Givhan and the Nominee's Legs {Politics Daily}

May 26th 2010 5:09AM LOL. Thanks so much for this silliness - it is good to start a day with laughter. She's a fashion commentator folks, not a rocket scientist. And do you really find the "look" of most fashionistas to be a look most people would walk around in? C'mon, this Givhan person's photo shows a teeny bopper-esque sundress on a nearly middle aged woman - does she not look silly? And is her gaydar going off cuz it takes one to know one? Silliness all.

America the Peevish: When Debate Descends to Name-Calling {Politics Daily}

Mar 8th 2010 10:35AM So I engaged in conversation lately with 3 different anti-Obama-ites (yes they were all 3 apparently racists also) on 3 separate occasions, spouting off about the USA becoming a socialist/communist country etc. I asked each of them to explain to me their version what the socialist or communist system of government was. They all thought that socialism & communism was the same thing, no one could give any details of either system other than to say it was like Russia and/or China. Rather than ask each of them if they voted in the last election (I suspected they would lie) I asked them where their polling place was located. Only 1 of the 3 could tell me, and the school they named had not actually used as a polling place for many years. Here's what I learned:
1. They love to rant - it seems to be their form of entertainment
2. They like to repeat the "magic ranting phrases" they've heard others use
3. They have no actual knowledge about that which they rant
4. They don't vote
The last one says it all.

Scotty Lago Leaves Olympics After Risque Pictures Hit Web {Fanhouse Olympics Blog}

Feb 21st 2010 8:18AM "He's just a kid" . . . Oh please. He had to have enough discipline to train and earn a spot on the US olympic team, such that he is certainly capable of understanding the full responsibilities which accompany the privilage of being an olympic athlete. Yes, all team members agree to certain codes of conduct - if you can't abide by those rules during that short 2.5 weeks of your life, then don't become a member of the olympic team. Was his behavior atrocious? NO, but he did let his guard down and made a boo-boo. I applaud his very mature handling of his "oops" after the incident. Just too bad he didn't think a little more about image of fellow US olympians and a little less about loose young ladies. Well, now he's guaranteed a spot on the late night talk show circuit.

Is 'Undercover Boss' Too Exploitative of Employees? {PopEater}

Feb 11th 2010 12:31PM Oops - gob of film, not gosb

Is 'Undercover Boss' Too Exploitative of Employees? {PopEater}

Feb 11th 2010 12:29PM 1. They take gosb of film and edit, edit, edit it down into what the show's producers want you to see - how they choose to tell the story. The featured "boss" has very little to do with what appears on your TV.
2. The wanna be journalist who wrote this article is probably just working on building their portfolio in hopes of getting a real journalism job. He had to choose some angle for his story, so he chose the "poor exploited worker" theme. His real views have may very little to do with his chosen theme for this article. It's just a literary device, a different way to review a show, not necessarily his actual opinion.

LEGOLAND is coming to Florida! {Gadling}

Jan 27th 2010 12:17PM Tallahassee, the capital of Florida, is a very family friendly town with some great schools. Its not on the ocean but has lots & lots of trees/forest areas. Jacksonville is a very huge sprawling area with some of the best & worst schools in the country. Stanton & Paxon in top 10 high schools in nation, good magnet schools, good beach schools, others not so much. If you live in one of the adjacent beach communities, the ocean moderates the weather so less humid & 10 degrees cooler in summer. Avoid Orlando proper - congested traffic and all the usual big city problems. I would suggest looking to move to a college-town in Florida. Yes the North of Florida gets more "Winter", but NOTHING like what a real winter is in the rest of the country. Destin (anything West of Port St. Joe) has the most beautiful white sand beaches, and it gets rural & forested real quick. Just depends what y'all are lookin for. Good Luck. BTW, I' very excited about the coming of LEGOS!

South Carolina's Bauer Regrets Comparing Needy to 'Stray Animals' {Politics Daily}

Jan 27th 2010 7:25AM Apparently few, if any, of the commentators have ever had to deal with welfare. Welfare is NOT fun, you DON'T get scads of money, you Don'T get unlimited funding for unlimited children, where are y'all getting these notions - they are NOT true! I don't get welfare per se, but my daughter is on the med-waiver program as a secondary health insurance (she has an extra chromosome) - for example, just try finding pediatric dentist that accepts med-waiver - only 1 in the huge metro area where I live and he's 25 miles away on the other side of the city. If you live outside a metro area you might have to travel 150 miles to find a doctor for your kid, no kidding! Yeah, its a laugh-a-minute fun fest getting government aid.

And the Award Goes to... Oops? {PopEater}

Jan 27th 2010 7:01AM And the Oliver Miller award for careless copy goes to . . . Oliver Miller himself for leaving out the name of the winning band, implying the negative crowd reaction was for the actual (unnamed) winning band rather than for the announcer, not matching paragraph titles with paragraph copy - the title is correct, the words within the paragraph are not - Marisa Tomei did win Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 1993 Academy Awards for the 1992 movie, but not Best Actress in a Leading Role. Then again this is Popeater, so journalistic integrity/thoroughness is like, um, optional, right?

Women's Groups Want CBS to Drop Tim Tebow Super Bowl Ad {Fanhouse Backporch}

Jan 26th 2010 3:58PM People people people, it's an ad - just as no ad forces you to buy their soda or beer, this ad will not mandate only one option, everyone still has the same choices they had before a 30-60 ad flashed across their TV. Its called freedom of speech - people are still free to express their views in the USA - remember? Yes, it might be different than your view, but guess what? You can leave the room, turn the channel, close your ears, whatever - you don't have listen if you freely choose not to.
