Nov 4th 2007 1:46PM I'm glad you wrote this post. This captures the essence of Tokyo from an inside-outsider's perspective. Guidebooks have a limited amount of space to capture the basics of a city and tend to be out of date - great for backpackers and an incredible sense of spontaneity (自発的な), but I've found it to be difficult in major cities (Hong Kong, New York, London, Amsterdam, Melbourne, Bombay, Tokyo, ... the list goes on.) Events publications, generally hard to locate out of country, are marketed to locals (probably out of the economics of publishing); as such its hard to determine notability for a visitor looking for a mind-blowing time that is still genuine. And of course, there will never be enough room in print to describe the awesome-ity of the blue hair shown above.
