GM pulls gay Chevy ads: Don't worry, we weren't gonna buy one anyway {WalletPop}
Jul 11th 2009 2:41AM I'm still trying to figure out how the UAW, as an owner of a major share in Government Motors and in Obamysler, work with the obvious conflict of interest. As owners, they would try to increase profits, and contain costs; including labor and employee benefits. But, as the union representatives for labor they, if they were honest, would put all their effort into raising wages and adding benefits. There must be a whole lot of lying going on here. I'm disappointed that the workers are staying with the UAW and not switching to a real union for representation. Tom
Recession adoptions: Economy forces some women to give up babies {WalletPop}
May 22nd 2009 1:37AM Whatever happened to catching up with the fathers of these children, or is this just another liberal social scheme. There seems to be no problem forcing some people to make child support payments, even if it puts them into a financial bind, but the low lifes are allowed to reproduce at will without any effort to get child support from them. Economists expect recession to end in September {Daily Finance}
Apr 11th 2009 12:17PM It's easy to follow congress laying the blame on the banks but don't overlook the fact that it was the same congress that pressured banks into making "sub-prime" loans to people who were poor risks to begin with. And it was Freddie and Fanny, both outfits mainly managed by the government and defended by Dodd and Franks, that created the conditions for recession by packaging sub-prime mortgages as saleable securities. Police haul HBO executive, husband off Delta Airlines flight {Gadling}
Jan 29th 2009 4:36PM Ken, re your comments about the "rational Obama mantra" and working together; I couldn't help but notice the rational, work together attitude of the Obamamaniacs as they jeered and booed the departing president. Oh and how about the trashing of the plaza. Tom
Turkey Terrorism -- Postman Rattled by Wattled Ones {Asylum}
Jan 29th 2009 3:48PM Barb, guns are just tools. It is people who kill people. And people with guns also protect lives and property. You need to look at some facts about guns and stop reading that liberal crap. Tom
Obama Signs First Law: The Ledbetter Fair Pay Act {Politics Daily}
Jan 29th 2009 2:36PM While fair pay for equal work is a fine sounding principle, who is to judge what constitutes equal work. The ultimate result of this law could well be a reduction of wages to higher paid, possibly more valuable, employees to keep overall labor costs within reasonable limits. Tom
Should Employers Be Able to Monitor Your Social Networking? {Asylum}
Jan 23rd 2009 8:22PM First, you shouldn't be using a publicly owned computer for private e-mails or business. And, unless the company approves of such use, the same should apply to company owned machines. Also, use of a computer for personal business during your work shift is cheating the agency or company; just as much as taking unauthorized breaks or sneaking out early before the work shift is completed. Use of company machines and company time would seem to imply that anything in that machine is company property. Tom
11-Month-Old Boy Accidentally NARCs on Dad {Asylum}
Jan 22nd 2009 4:03PM There are three problems with pot. It is certainly addictive, as is tobacco though, perhaps, not as addictive as alcohol. It affects your judgement and perception, and can be as dangerous as alcohol if you are loaded and drive. After working in the CA prison system for neartly thirty years, I know that a huge majority of heavy narcotics addicts were introduced to the drug culture through pot. Tom
Recession hits beer sales {WalletPop}
Jan 19th 2009 9:30PM Mayby, if the revenue to the UK and Belgium drops enough, they'll think about selling Coors/Miller and Budweiser back to the good old U.S.A. While I only drink beer with certain meals, and not more than one on any given day, I still try to stay with companies which are headquartered here, in America. Currently, it is an imported beer, from Texas, to CA. Tom
McDonald's: Over 20 billion served...then trashed? {WalletPop}
Jan 19th 2009 4:21PM This article, or the group which did the study, put their focus on the wrong place. Of course the modern trend is to blame any successful busines for all of society's problems; an try to tap into the profits for correction. The trash problem is NOT the business of those restaurants. It is, quite simoly, the result of people either too lazy or too uncaring to dispose of their trash properly. I don't know how convenient it might be to dispose of trash in the UK but in this country, even with trash containers readily available, we still have slobs who trash our highways, parking lots, parks and other public areas.
