Tenants of Manhattan Complex Irate Over Mid-Lease Rent Hikes {AOL Real Estate}
May 20th 2013 11:04AM I was involved in a case similar in 1992 where our landlord raised the rent simultaneously for all tenants in the middle of the lease periods. We all thought it was illegal, but then we found out the disputed lease amount was included as an "attached" document with the lease but was never actually explained to us or even discussed. And when we eventually did see it, it was mostly legalese and most of us didn't really know what it meant. And us signing the lease meant we were signing that "attached document" as well. So several tenants (I wasn't one of them) actually tried to sue the landlord. I didn't know the details, but the landlord apparently agreed that he didn't adequately inform us beforehand and the rent was only increased upon our leases expiring. If that in fact was the court's judgement, then the whole "let the buyer beware" can be overturned if the person selling or renting attempts to obscure that information in some cases at least. This was in Pennsylvania by the way. Now granted, this may not have been a court judgement and may have been just the landlord acquiescing out of fear or guilt, but if the renters in Manhattan put up enough of a fight they just might win.

10 Pieces Of Travel Advice To Ignore {Gadling}
Sep 8th 2012 6:32PM The author claiming there's no need to learn the local language is idiotic. Learn as much of the local language you can before going; numbers, yes/no, thank you, etc. Sure, you can get by without trying to learn the language, but your experiences are many times richer by speaking what you can of the locals language. I've never had anything but positive responses from that.
Jeffrey Dahmer, Andrea Yates, the Lemp Family: Life Inside Homes Where Grisly Deaths Took Place {AOL Real Estate}
Aug 5th 2012 3:20PM I understand it's not the house's fault, point taken. But I recall watching a documentary several years ago about Jeffrey Dahmer's house where the police said the stench of rotting body parts emminating from a certain part of the house induced them to wear gas masks. The thought of that smell lingering in the house and knowing what it might might would make me never be able to eat anything there. Thinking about it now makes me nauseous.

Emptying the Nest: Q&A With Author Dr. Brad Sachs {ParentDish}
Jan 30th 2011 6:07PM Victoria, would you seriously want your kid to demand money every time you want them to do something?? "Will you take out the trash, please?" "How much are you willing to pay me?" I'm sure there are parent-child conversations in America that go something like that.
Emptying the Nest: Q&A With Author Dr. Brad Sachs {ParentDish}
Jan 30th 2011 6:04PM I used to think this stuff was common sense until I started coming accross more and more well-meaning but really inept parents. It's mind boggling to me to see parents so idiotic that they think they're supposed to buy their kids everything they want. But they're all over the place. That's what creates a sense of entitlement.

My Unemployed Life: The Forgotten Woman {AOL Jobs}
Nov 27th 2010 10:34PM Unemployed for 2 years...and you "left stone unturned"!? Please. I've never been unemployed for more than 2 weeks and I'm a lot older than you. I remember my father was 62 and was layed off and had no high school diploma. He looked around for a few months in his industry but couldn't find anything. He actually resorted to applying at places like McDonalds. But the fact is, he would have never allowed himself to be unemployed that long. He eventually found a decent job after 6 months or so--at 62--in an oil/auto industry that at the time was at rock bottom in the US. If this article is legitimate, there's a little more to the story than Mollee is letting on.
