Jul 24th 2012 6:37PM Well if the homeowners evaluation goes down so does their taxes I would think. The outcome of all this though is that affordable housing for seniors in going to become non existant. Oh sure we can spend our life's savings for a home then just sit and watch TV as we have no money left to do anything meaningful with our lives. The housing industry lobbyist has gotten the politicians to pass so many building and zoning restrictions that a senior on limited income has little or no choice in where they live or what they live in.

As for these types of loans which appear to be aimed at the 1% ers when their mortgage goes underwater I sure hope our government keeps thier hands out of our pockets to keep them afloat.

Jun 19th 2012 12:21PM Isn't it ironic that folks who currently have undewater mortgages didn't seem to feel that their mortgage payment was too high when they purchased their house. So what if the house is valued lower then they should apply for a property tax reduction. They still have to live someplace and pay x amount of money for housing.

How many in the latter are able to afford a home purchase on tips and minimum wage jobs? All the while the home building and real estate industry make absurd profits all down the line from sale of building lots. mortgage brokers fees to actual construction costs. One Arizona builder gave millions of dollars to ASU proving that there was plenty of profit from his company to afford the generous gift to the university with plenty left over for a luscious lifestyle.
