Are You a 99er? Unemployment Benefits Are Over, What to Do? {AOL Jobs}
Jul 8th 2010 12:39PM The problem with most unemployed Americans - which I WAS one year ago, and several of my friends are now - is that they limit themselves in what they search for. I know a few unemployed pilots who CLAIM they've been looking for work, but really haven't been. One in particular claimed she "can't afford to get a job because I get paid more in unemployment and then I wouldn't be able to pay my mortgage and live the same life style." EXCUSE ME?!? So it's way easier to freeload off of people like me who can't afford a house, don't have health insurance, and work my butt off. There are always bars and restaurants hiring. ALWAYS. But people don't want to do that kind of work. I can't blame them. I did it because I had no other option for a while and I hated it. I also know of several people who claim unemployment based on a "reduction of hours" while continuing to work during the slow season at Tourist Trap Restaurants here in town and pay the managers cash under the table. It's a joke and is abused, just like everything else.
It's not ALWAYS misused, but too often it is. I'm quite frankly offended by the first article because he says "jobs that pay as little as $50 a day." Excuse me? That's minimum wage, buddy. And if it's freelance, you're probably getting paid MORE per hour because you're working less hours. I'm a young adult, college grad with two degrees and guess what, I make just a hair more than minimum wage. Boohoo. work. Save your money and don't complain because you're not getting paid as much as you used to. My minimum wage job is paying HIS rent as I pay into unemployment. We've forgotten what hard work is. We've become spoiled and want someone else to fix our problems for us, but it won't happen that way and it shouldn't.
And for the record, No. I'm not a republican. Because I know that will be someone's first response.
Sarah Palin Attacked My High School -- Here's Why She's Wrong {Lemondrop}
May 21st 2010 12:18AM I don't agree with the law in question, but I also do not agree with not allowing a team to compete. This young woman is not a part of the team and is not the one who worked to get to this competition.
If they had told the dance team I was on in high school that we couldn't go compete at nationals after we qualified; I would be livid. Especially if I were a senior.
This school IS making a political statement. If the team stands in solidarity with the school board and made the mature decision themselves, that is one thing. But in the situation the school board is forcing this decision, then it is immature on the school's part.
I have a good friend who's father was an illegal immigrant. Do I care he came here? Yes. Because it supplied me with the opportunity to meet this wonderful woman. But are all illegals as benign? Definitely not. There are some serious problems in AZ near the border, and it is tough for those of us here in Illinois to truly understand the severity of the issue. Is racial profiling the way to go about it? No. Because I also know some Canadians and Brits who have let their student visas expire and are illegals. Bet they wouldn't get stopped under this law. If you require proof of citizenship, require it of everyone, regardless of race. Sound difficult? Aye, there's the rub.
Regardless, Brava to the young woman who wrote this for putting together an editorial that is relevant, well written, and thought out. Whether I agree with her or not. It's nice to see high school students caring about something other than Jersey Shore.
Why 'Skinny Jeans' Should Never Be The Reason A Rapist Walks {Lemondrop}
May 10th 2010 11:40PM Hannah, I'm not sure your grudge, but first of all, that's not the case in all situations. Women are NEVER allowed to hit men, that's domestic abuse as well.
Regardless of your past situations, your comments had nothing to do with whether or not a woman wearing Skinny Jeans meant she obviously consented.
I've never banished the boyfriend to the couch. If I'm pissed at him, I'M the one who chooses to go elsewhere. And in Devil Wears Prada, I'm TOTALLY with Anne Hathaway's Character. Her career, or a boyfriend who doesn't understand what she's doing. I found her boyfriend to be unwilling to bend. Yeah, in that film she shouldn't have flaked on his birthday, but he should have understood it was because of her job. I've missed my boyfriend's bday and he's missed mine because of work. There's nothing you can do about it sometimes. You'll learn that when you start working. Quite honestly, If I were Anne's character, I would have NEVER tried to go back to that guy. He and his attitude weren't worth it.

Apr 1st 2010 11:58PM Amy Adams is simply - no pun intended - enchanting on the screen. She's incredibly versatile and genuine. She's phenomenally talented.
Are 'Babies' the New Penguins? {Moviefone Blog}
Mar 22nd 2010 2:11AM When I was a teen, I didn't want kids, either. I babysat, but that was the extent of it. I didn't start wanting to have kids until I met my boyfriend; someone that I actually WANT to have kids with. In time your opinion may change. But if it doesn't, it's your choice either way.

Mar 22nd 2010 2:06AM I would say that the fact we all come from a single cell that grows inside our mother's womb for 9 months is pretty amazing. Watch a documentary on human development. We're such a complicated organism. It's pretty earth shattering to think about how amazing the human body is.
While people's opinions on babies themselves vary, watching them learn and grow is relatively fascinating. Whether you want kids or not. The human brain (and how it changes as we learn) is, in my opinion, absolutely beautiful.

Mar 22nd 2010 2:00AM That first clip with the babies fighting and screaming made me instantly rethink any desire to have kids within the next 5 years. :-)
A Swift Backlash: Will Taylor's Album of the Year Grammy Hurt Her? {PopEater}
Feb 2nd 2010 12:06AM Wow. Sounds like you're jealous.
A Swift Backlash: Will Taylor's Album of the Year Grammy Hurt Her? {PopEater}
Feb 2nd 2010 12:05AM exactly. Dave Matthews really ought to have gotten Album of the year, but at least it wasn't Beyonce or Gaga. I can get behind Beyonce's best female vocals because she has some AMAZING pipes, but PUT A RING ON IT should NOT have won song of the year.
Overall, the Grammy's just made me lose all faith in the music industry. Popularity doesn't equal musical prowess. But according to the Grammys, it must.
