do you really think so? i've got an '08 outback with the frameless windows, and haven't as much heard a shake when tearing down the pothole-lined freeways in norcal.
now, if only i could do something about my father in law using the window glass as a handle when egressing the vehicle, and trying to kill the door by slamming it repeatedly....

anyhow, the author's idea of finding an older system, and lugging that around (instead of a top-of-the-line laptop) is noble... but he forgot to mention that ultimately: the older machine will suck up the juice in the (equally old) batteries, and 15 minutes after it's turned on... he'd be stuck looking for a power outlet to charge it up again. in addition, most people do not realize how slow a 400 mhz pIII laptop really is. it is SLOW. don't expect to watch youtube videos, review your downloaded photos, or much of anything, really.
i'll stick with the netbook, it may cost more, but it's smaller, lighter, faster, and will hold a charge longer than anything you could get off ebay. also, if you're worried about dunking it in the amazon, might i suggest a freezer sized ziploc baggie?
