Ravens 27, Dolphins 9: Chad Pennington's Bad Day Ends Miami's Surprising Season {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Jan 4th 2009 5:08PM Hey, from a Pats' fan, hats off to the Miami Dolphins for a great season. Yeah, it ended way too soon, but at least you had 17 weeks of fun. It's nice finally having some competition in the division because we know the Jets will rot next year!

To Ravens' fans, you have a great chance of going all the way with that smokin' defense and an offense that's producing. Do the AFC proud!

Studs and Duds Week 16: Matt Cassel's Resume Just Became a Lot More Polished {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Dec 23rd 2008 6:29AM As a life-long Pats fan, it was tough to see Brady go down in the first game. I had always paid close attention to Cassel and how he presented himself in those few opportunities when he would take the field and I knew he could get the job done. He has the skills...strong, accurate arm, good decision making, good movement in the pocket, he can scramble and isn't afraid to take a hit. What I didn't expect was how quickly he was able to win his teammates' confidence and become a leader.

I'm personally happy that Cassel got this opportunity and will be a starter in this league, just hopefully not for a division rival (Jets looking?). He'll get a huge payday and he deserves it for being such a loyal player these past years.

Girl Asks Santa to Make the Abuse Stop {ParentDish}

Dec 19th 2008 6:25AM Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. I'm so sorry it took so long to answer your request. Rest assured my dear that Santa's helpers in the blue uniforms and badges will make sure this man never harms you or your sister again.

He will be placed in my "bad reindeer" pen with the others on my naughty list. They don't like men who hurt little children. He will spend the rest of his life fighting off the bad reindeer named Slasher, Stabber, Killer and SticksEm, then Bomber, Stupid, Maim-er and TricksEm.

You have a Merry Christmas, sweetie.......God Bless!

Randy Moss Won't Be Seeing Much of Nnamdi Asomugha on Sunday {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Dec 16th 2008 6:31AM I think most corners would rather cover Moss than Welker anyway......Welker has a habit of making defenses look bad. 100 grabs with 2 games to go. He should surpass his 112 from last year. I remember so many people laughing when the Pats snagged him from Miami. I was laughing too...for a different reason. We knew what he did to the Pats with Harrington tossing the rock and could only imagine what he could do with Brady (and now baby-Brady) chucking it his way. He who laughs last.......;-)

Two Qantas jets collide, but were not carrying passengers {Gadling}

Nov 25th 2008 8:03AM I agree with Woodie up there ^^^^
What kind of chucklehead is the author of this story? THIS is the type of headline I point to when I attempt to validate my argument about bias in the media.

Misleading headlines like this one are just another case of irresponsible journalism and they make the publication and the author no more credit-worthy than the Sun or the Weekly World News. To intentionally mislead the viewers into believing that there was a collision of two airliners, knowing FULL WELL that people are going to think "CRASH" goes against the "hipocratic oath" of journalism, which is objectivity.

The mainstream media has lost all credibility in my eyes and we as Americans need to slap them silly. Because of people such as this author, I look at every story printed with a cocked eye, wondering where the truth really lies.

The MOST important lesson we readers can take from this and other misrepresentations of the facts is this: "The camera ONLY goes where the cameraman points it". There is so much more to the story than what the author chooses to tell you, so make sure you seek out everything OUTSIDE the scope of the lens before you come to your truth!

US Airways Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry {Gadling}

Nov 25th 2008 7:17AM Is this the first time flying for this bonehead? I don't think I've EVER been on a flight in which two people not flying together have paid the same price. There are so many variables that go into airline ticket pricing and you're never going to find pricing consistency from one seat to the next.

What people really have forgotten is that the airline is taking you from one place to another place REALLY FAR AWAY in only a matter of hours for only a few hundred dollars...and often less than that....trips that used to take our ancestors MONTHS by horse and buggy back in the old days.

Also, before deregulation, ticket prices 40 years ago were MUCH more expensive than they are today. Wake up and smell the coffee dude....and don't take it out on the person at the counter...they're only a pawn in the corporate game.

Nov 19th 2008 10:23AM Yup Heather....those are called "Loss Leaders". Those are in the newspapaer every Sunday. You'll see a HUGE ad like "2008 Nissan Maxima FULLY LOADED with FULL FACTORY WARRANTY for the Unbelievable Price of $10,995!".

However, when you read the "fine print" on the ad (good luck reading it without a microscope), it will say something like "1 vehicle available at this price, others available with differing options at differing prices"....and when you get there, you will be told "Sorry, but that car has been sold.....however, we do have these ones over here and they are on sale!". (Even though you see these "unbelievable deals" advertised on a weekly basis, I have never ever met a person who was lucky enough to be the one to buy that one vehicle available at that price).

Anyway, the gimmick is to get you in the door and let the salespeople take a whack at you....it seems to be an effective sales trick because they've been doing it forever. The same gimmick applies to "0 % financing" deals that your dad was drawn into....even Bill Gates doesn't seem to qualify for those......lol

Nov 19th 2008 10:04AM I forgot to add something.....I do have a friend who is a Chysler dealer and he told me that the money they make from the customer can sometimes pale in comparison to the money they make off the factory.

He mentioned that at his dealership, they were paid a "lot fee" by the factory for each car they took delivery on.....that fee was, for all intents and purposes, "rent" for the car taking up space in the lot.

Some high-volume dealers operate by cutting the sticker price by the amount (or close to the amount) of money they get for the lot fee. They can sell the car at a lower price because they are getting paid to place the car on their lot, but the car isn't sitting there long....they sell it and order another car to take its place....more lot fees.....that one is sold almost as soon as it comes off the truck and sp on and so forth as the cycle continues.

There are 101 different ways a dealer makes money....but the BIGGEST income getters for a dealer are the sale of options, warranties, and financing bonuses. (I always wondered why they were so interested in the financial agreement between myself and the lender). Check the price of that new CD player and compare it to the price of an aftermarket system. You'll find you could probably get a top of the line audio system for the money you spent on that middle-of-the-road factory set.

In closing...this BOGO truck deal just may be in response to the panic programs the manufacturers devised when gas prices hit $4 a gallon and the factory and dealers were stuck with these huge gas-guzzlers that no one wanted to buy......the dealer may just be getting in under the wire on the programs, selling off the remaining inventory before it expires.

Happy Motoring!!

Nov 19th 2008 9:19AM They say they only make $1000-$2000 off the sale itself...what they don't tell you is the money they make from the factory in "factory to dealer incentives". In this particular BOGO deal, I assume there are a couple of factors in play.....One is that you are not getting any break off the sticker price for vehicle #1 and #2 is the dealer is getting a larger than usual kickback for clearing his lot.

Another possibility....there could be a HUGE bonus from the factory for selling "X" amount of vehicles for a given period. It could be that the dealer is nearing that mark and it is worth it to sell their remaining vehicles at a small to moderate loss in exchange for the reward for selling "X" amount of vehicles.

Whatever the case may be, rest assured that you're not getting as good a deal as you may think and the dealer is NOT going to lose money during this promotion. "If it looks too good to be true......."
