Oct 27th 2007 1:03PM Up in the north-eastern part of the Shan State in Tachileik, you'd see many tourists from Mai Sai in Thailand crossing the border for a day. Unfortunately, if you continue on there is but one other village in Burma to visit there. The rest, a locked military zone partly controlled by rebels. As a result, you'd have government papers following you wherever you go--staying in a hotel, taking a bus, anything.
From what I recall, the going rate for one $1 USD was about 1200 kyat in Yangon during the summer of 2006.
