Feb 18th 2010 10:05AM We lived in Maryland for 30 years. We put our MD home on the market in 2007 at $675,000. 2 1/2 years later we sold the MD home for $410,000. During the time we had the house on the market we really got depressed as we wanted to retire and move to Ft Myers, FL are. The delay in selling our MD home was actually a blessing in disquise. While the MD home prices were falling so were the FL home prices.
After sell the MD home we left for FL. It took two months to find the "right" house in FL but find one we did.
The FL home was 4 years old, 3-2-2, on a lake with 1/2 acre lot, in ground pool, everything we were looking for in our retirement home. The previous owners had it custom built and paid almost $375,000. All kinds of upgrades were built in to the home. After 2 years they lost the home and it was foreclosed by the bank. We paid $85,000 cash for the FL home.
If we had of sold the MD home fast we would have come to FL and bought a home in the $350,000 range that is now worth under a $100,000.
I guess everything has it's reasons
