Sep 24th 2009 2:17AM Several studies have shown that delivering at home with a qualified midwife is SAFER than delivering at home... a hundred years ago MOST babies were born at home, and don't think for one minute the infant mortality rates have changed that much.... they haven't! The US ranks 42 in the world for infant mortality, meaning 41 other countries have LOWER infant mortality.
Interventions (like epidurals, inducing labor, augmenting with pitocin) = increased infant mortality... especially when the result in a c/section!
I say good for this woman... she delivered her baby in the same place it was created... safe and sound AT HOME!

Dec 12th 2007 7:14PM This is why I love my VOIP, Vonage. $25 a month, and I've had it for 3 years, no rate change, call friends all over the world, and take it with me when I travel outside the country. I used it down in Paraguay this past summer!

Nov 24th 2007 9:47PM I've been a home birth midwife for almost 20 years. I love it when women plan unmedicated, no epis., waterbirths.... I have a 97% success rate, with a 2.9% c/section rate... women should be armed with information and education. Birth isn't an illness or a disease, it's a natural condition, and only becomes an illness when we meddle with it!
So sad that Sarah only sees "disasters"... if you leave birth alone, it really works well. We, as healthcare pratitioners, screw it up all the time.

Oct 2nd 2007 8:20AM There is one very large studies done; one of the Amish in Lancaster Co. (over 12,000 kids, 3 cases of autism) and a very large home birth MD OB/GYN group called Home First in Chicago, where the head physician claims that in over 30,000 kids, there isn't a single case of autism... the common thread? Both groups have had limited exposure to vaccinations.
People should really do their homework, rather than believe in govt. sponsored "studies".
p.s. most cases of Polio were a result of the vaccine, not the actual virus. My very dear friend contracted polio that way.
