Dogs Are More Clever Than Cats, Study Says {Pawnation OLD}
Nov 23rd 2010 5:35PM Cats are clearly smarter; you'll never get 8 cats to pull a sled :) Seriously, though, I had a Siamese female cat who untied (not tore out, not bit through, UNTIED THE KNOTS ON) her stitches when she was spayed. I spent the entire week retying them. My Siamese mix stripey boy has figured out how to open the front door, so I have to make sure I lock it when I'm not actually going through it. Siamese are great problem-solvers; they just don't always have the same definition of a problem as humans do. It boils down to this: dogs want to please humans; cats want to please themselves. That alone should give any researcher fits.
Water park shut down because of burgers, fries, mozzarella {Gadling}
Aug 2nd 2010 12:54PM Assuming it does turn out to be adolescents (the real kind, not the overgrown kind), one is then left to wonder where the parental units were in all this? I live in Northern Virginia, and this area is simply full of people who all seem to live in their own little worlds and seem to think that the effects of their actions on other people are irrelevant -- and they raise their kids to be the same way. Maybe it has something to do with the proximity to politicians -- of all sorts.
Most deadly times, places to drive {WalletPop}
Jul 16th 2010 12:48PM I'm surprised Washington, DC didn't make the list. Between the drivers who can't stay off the phone long enough to drive, the self-important people who are sure their time is more valuable than everyone else's, and the astonishing number of internationals who put the "dip" in "diplomat", the only reason I can think of that we didn't make the list is because traffic moves so slowly around here, most of the accidents don't involve enough momentum to be fatal.
Cats Versus Dogs -- Savings Experiment {WalletPop}
Jul 15th 2010 1:02PM Jeremy, you've obviously never met my Mittens (or better yet, my Finn Mac Cool). Dogs may bark louder, and some dogs can be trained to attack, but nobody can tangle up one's feet better than a cat!

Would You Go to Work Barefaced? Get Ready for Makeup-Free Monday {Stylelist}
May 17th 2010 8:07PM When I had to move, I ended up moving farther away from my job. I had a choice: get up half an hour earlier than the already ungodly hour I have to get up or stop wearing makeup. Most of the year, I work in a cubicle. Now I only wear makeup when I'm going somewhere "dressy" and when I'm at my association's trade show where I come face to face with exhibitors and members.
Keeping track of your money without balancing a checkbook {WalletPop}
Apr 16th 2010 9:38PM Recording on a PDA (and then transferring it to Microsoft Money) helps on the balancing end as well. I can download my transactions to Money and match them up on the computer. Most of them match up automatically, so it's just a matter of scrolling through them and clicking "Accept" on the matches that are correct and matching up the few that don't match automatically. When I get my statement e-mail, I just plug the statement date and the beginning and ending balances into the balancing wizard, and the computer does the rest.
Keeping track of your money without balancing a checkbook {WalletPop}
Apr 16th 2010 9:35PM I also use Microsoft Money. I have a pocket version on my Palm, which is one of the few things I use my old Palm for. Ultrasoft Money is also available for Windows Mobile, but I'm not sure I want to put my checkbook on my smartphone just yet. I don't agree with the people who just check their bank's web site, as there can be a time lag of several days between the time a check is written or a debit card transaction is made and when it clears your account. In the meantime, you're dependent on your memory of what you've spent or deposited. Since mine is like a sieve, I find the Palm/Microsoft Money combination works better.
Airline Says British Couple "Too Old" to Sit in Emergency Exit Row {AOL Travel News}
Apr 13th 2010 1:16PM The point is that if they are going to charge extra for seats with extra legroom, they need to set out UP FRONT whether those seats are in an exit row and what their criteria are for seating people in an exit row. If the couple had known in advance that these were exit row seats and that they would not meet the age criteria, then they would have been able to choose different seats at the time they booked and been spared both the embarrassment at the airport and having to sit separately on the way home. I fault the airline for not stating its policies clearly at the point of booking. I know in the U.S., you can't sit in an exit row if you are under 15, but I haven't seen any upper age limit on the safety cards in the plane. If the airline's web site is smart enough to know which seats are available, it should be smart enough to pop up a dialog alerting the user when they select an exit row seat.
B-52s Reminisce About Their Early Days {Spinner}
Mar 17th 2010 12:38PM I got to see them live several years ago. They performed at Universal CityWalk in Orlando as part of the International Builders' Show. It was awesome!
