Mexico's safest destinations {Gadling}

Jan 23rd 2012 9:08AM Just to put these numbers into perspective:

Philadelphia has 27 murders per 100,000 people.

These places are therefore 14times SAFER than Philadelphia. Just with anyplace you go - be aware of your surroundings and don't buy drugs!

If the US people didn't buy POT thinking it's an ok drug - then these cartels would be crippled with no money.

Paul Daley Feels Scott Coker 'Sold Out' {MMA Fighting}

Apr 7th 2011 3:13PM I wonder if they can somehow keep it segregated like Football. Have an NFC (strikeforce) and an AFC (UFC).

Then every 2 years unify the belts? Have like 8 people each fight at beginning of 2012. Then Those 4 winners fight each other.. then the 2.

Then the 2 "champions" fight each other. Every 1.5 years? I know the Champion wouldn't always be fighting the number 1 contender and that may suck but at least you would get totally crazy matches that may make for GREAT fights!

Ford shows off 67-mpg Focus Econetic ahead of Amsterdam debut {Autoblog}

Apr 6th 2011 5:12PM In Europe the have a different testing cycle because their roads are way different. Most of the driving there rolling countryside.

I averaged WAY more mpg than I ever would have here in the states.

Also, the Prius in Poland is rated at 56mpg. Here it is rated at 50mpg. So basically this ford is about 20% better than the Prius - which would be very impressive!

I agree with some of these people. Philadelphia was one of the first cities built in the US. However the major highway coming into the city East/West is only 2 lanes (I76). It's a 12hr backup every single day. You can hit it at 11pm on a Saturday night and for no apparent reason its still a 5mph crawl. Pretty crazy. The people running the city have NEVER invested in widening highways to accommodate the traffic of a 400 year old city. The prius does fine crawling along and for the first 15 minutes gets like 100mpg. Then the battery is depleted and it goes down to about 25mpg.

If I hit the traffic just right I can average 70mpg on the ride into work. the ride home is usually about 45mpg because I'm rushing to get home. My normal consumption is about 50mpg. (I don't exactly have a feather foot, and I'm constantly passing BMW 335's on their cell phones etc).

Volkswagen Jetta ranked last among small sedans by Consumer Reports {Autoblog}

Apr 5th 2011 3:46PM I think they are pretty spot on.

Everyone that wants maximum fuel economy SHOULD drive a prius.

Everyone that wants a blend in/balanced midsize sedan SHOULD drive a Camry.

Now if everyone want the fastest best handling car for 75k then everyone should drive a GTR.

Obviously everyone should drive what suits them. I actually like the look of the jetta. Looks like a far more expensive car even though it's only $16k.

I don't however like the engine at all. 2.5 liter 5cyl? Come on that's pathetic old tech to TRY to get average fuel economy.

I can't believe a company with the availability of Porsche, Bugatti, Audi, Lambo, VW can't come up with a solid 4 banger engine that gets good gas mileage.

Anyone else find it odd that they can produce such amazing engines under their umbrella but don't have a decent NA 4cyl engine in their lineup at all?

Yet Hyundai has like 4 of them that are out of this world.

Don't even think of mentioning diesels either. I'm talking a normal 40mpg gas engine here.

Ford delivers 2012 Mustang Cobra Jet racers, lays claim to quickest production car [w/video] {Autoblog}

Apr 5th 2011 10:14AM I'm curious what the weight is on this thing???

If it's just swapping the 5.0 to a 5.4 and tweaking it a little, what is making this so fast?

No warranty?

Then what's from stopping someone from buying a slightly used Mustang (400ish hp) and just putting slicks on it, ripping out everything that isn't needed, taking off the mirrors etc and throwing a supercharger on it.

Wouldn't that be about the same quarter mile time as this?

I figure you could probably strip out a realistic 800 lbs between AC, Radio, Spare Tire, mirrors, back seats, trunk, insulation/sound deadening,

I'm thinking even with Carbon Fiber hood/trunk cost of a slightly used mustang plus a supercharger /carbon fiber parts, exhaust, wheels would still be under $50k.

Then if you sell all the components that you took off (hood, trunk, radio , mirrors, stock wheels, etc) you would easily make another $1500 back.

I love the under 10 second quarter, but I've seen dozens of notchback sub 10 second mustangs. Nothing new here other than a company with nearly unlimited resources built one.

Video: Watch split-screen action of 2011 Nissan GTR vs. Corvette ZR1 {Autoblog}

Mar 31st 2011 4:40PM I think the transmission alone accounts for nearly 4-5 seconds per lap.

Think about it. Entering a turn:

Vette driver:
Take 1 hand off steering wheel.
Lift off throttle ever so lightly
Depress clutch
Release Clutch while reengaging throttle and moving hand back to steering wheel and fighting to keep it straight.

GTR driver:
Pull 2 finger button behind steering wheel.
Adjust throttle

I'm a huge fan of manual transmissions but there is a HUGE reason all F1 cars don't use manuals.

The computer age is upon us. It's almost like man versus machine in the late 1800's. Whether we like it or not the computer can make it faster.

I seriously think they could shave off 4-5 seconds in just transmission alone if they got a 6 speed dsg style trans in there.

I'd LOVE to see someone drop the ZR1 motor into a GT-R. I know it would be an abomination but anyone else love to see what the 650hp v8 can do with awd???

It would be interesting!

Ultra lightweight Mazda MX-5 GT unveiled for British enduro racing {Autoblog}

Mar 23rd 2011 2:49PM Why would you question the 0-60 because of power/wt
This Miata:
1875/275 = 6.818lbs/hp.

2010 GTR:
3800/480 = 7.91lbs/hp

2004 Z06 (405hp) 3.9sec 0-60
3115/405 = 7.69lbs/hp

2011 Z06 505 hp
3180/505 = 6.30

It's 16% better than last year's GTR.

I would only question it because of the Traction issue. RWD only definitely would slow the 0-60 but with racing slicks it may be possible.

Don't question it because of power/weight.. question it because of TRACTION.

First Drive: 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class {Autoblog}

Mar 16th 2011 2:05PM No wonder Mitsubishi is canceling their EVO.

BMW 335 beats it, looks better, rides MUCH nicer, has more features, and can be purchased about the same price. (I know the BMW costs about $1800 more out the door - but it includes 4 years scheduled maintenance).

That right there makes up for the $1800 difference. With synthetic oils, brake pads (installed instead of having to waist 1.5 hrs to do it myself).

Yep I think the BMW looks better too. My love for the EVO faded after the IX. That was THE Evo to have. Better tunability and not trying to be something it wasn't. The evo in priced like a bmw, but interior is still bottom barrel Mitsubishi. Put a Denon factory authorized chip into the bmw and it will still be under warranty as well as completely destroy the evo.

Report: Corvette sales enjoying modest uptick after years of 'freefall' {Autoblog}

Mar 10th 2011 10:41AM umm.. I have 3 Toyotas in my driveway now and I'm looking to add a Corvette :)

I wish I could get a Z06 with a removable roof, but I'll probably settle for a C6 and an aftermarket supercharger on it.

I wish it could be all engine 500+ hp.. owell... we all have to settle.

KTM X-Bow will start at $88,500 in the U.S. {Autoblog}

Mar 4th 2011 12:09PM Gotcha thanks! I shoulda did some more reading but for Audi still a nice deal.

I would prefer the thing to run a crate 5.0 from Ford :)

I can't immagine paying over 100k for a car with 200ish hp. I understand weight etc.

Why not just buy a Supercharged Lotus AND an Ariel atom? Still be about the same price, both will be FULL cars not kits that you have to pay someone to install the motor.
